Jordan Electrics denied the fast-finishing Stormy Impact at Hamilton, and if any horse was going to beat me, I'm glad it's this old boy.
Jim Goldie's sprinter has been a terrific servant to Scottish sprints over the last eight years. At ten, he is still showing a true love for Hamilton. He made all to fend off Stormy Impact, who got going late, which I said would happen, but he didn't stay on quickly enough.
After a solid effort in the earlier race, Bay Breeze got a win in the final race at Hamilton. It was a good ride from David Allan, and a brave performance from Bay Breeze, who kept finding under Allan's urging.
Sparkling Wine 12/1 – Beverley 3.50
I think this race is extremely weak, so the price of 11/10 on the favourite could be seen as good value given the form she is in, but she has done all of her winning at Catterick. That track is quite niche on the sprint track as it's equivalent to the northern Epsom/Goodwood with a big downhill run for the first furlong or so, which is completely different to Beverley.
The other horses ahead of Sparkling Wine look in need of an extra furlong, and since Sparkling Wine's best performance came at this track earlier in the season, I was happy enough to chance her at odds of 12/1.
She is 46 rated and is not a great horse, but she is getting a lot of weight from the other horses in the race, and she might be able to take advantage of the other horses not having the true speed over five furlongs. The odds suggest that she is going to be smashed, and apart from that one run at Beverley, she has shown little, but a repeat performance of that run could be good enough to win this.
Misunderstood 9/4 – Beverley 4.25
In an ideal world, Misunderstood would want the ground to be a little slower, but he is still capable of winning races on good ground.
The front two in the market are closely matched from their recent encounter over today's course and distance. In scenarios like this, I think siding with the winner of the previous race is the way forward, but Misunderstood was a smart horse a couple of years ago, whereas Supreme Clarets is on the climb. There is a 2lb difference between them today, which isn't a lot, but it's definitely a help.
I couldn't find any other horse that could cause the front two in the market any problems. Hopefully, Misunderstood gets his head in front this time
