It was a mixed bag of rides for Cieren Fallon at Redcar, but he did manage to walk away with one winner.
He was powerful on Ammoony, who definitely needed that type of ride to get the win. The horse kept finding under Fallon's urgings, and made sure the strong money on him didn't go amiss.
His ride on Perfect Ruler wasn't the greatest. With a furlong to go I thought that he made a pig's ear of the ride, but it wouldn't have made any difference to the result. But, the horse ran on strongly and finished on the bridle and only a few lengths behind the winner. Perfect Ruler ran into trouble on a number of occasions, so who knows if she would have won.
Crownbreaker bumped into what could be a potential superstar in the opener at Carlisle. Karl Burke could have a very smart horse on his hands, and I'd be happy back the winner in any race she turns up next.
Regal Envoy was beaten by Redorange (shock after I tipped her on the weekend). I didn't expect the winner to turn up, but she did, and won with ease. My selection was in second place.
Capichera 2/1 (1pt) – Nottingham 3.50
Even though I think Capichera has a nice chance at Nottingham, she is starting to become an unbackable price. If she was anything shorter than 2/1 I'd be happy enough to watch her win without backing her. It wouldn't surprise me to see her drift overnight to a bigger price.
I'm convinced that this race will be a good form race to follow for future winners. There are some nice, unexposed types in this race who will take some big step forwards this season. At this moment in time, I thought that Capichera was the most likely winner based on his run at Newmarket this season. She finished a good third behind So Regal, who has since won another Class 2, and was recently second in a Listed race.
Capichera was fancied to run well at Newmarket, and she did. She was running on at the finish, so the extra half-furlong should be a helping hand to her chances of getting a win.
