World Of Fortunes 3/1 – Ayr 2.55
It was an impressive win for World Of Fortunes at Kelso last time out in a Listed race, and despite it being against some weak horses on an equal weight, she did what was needed and did it easily.
I think this race is a tougher assignment, even though it's a handicap. She has to carry 12 stone, but 7lbs is removed by Mr R Sugrue, which should make it a little easier for her. I said this is a harder task, but I don't think it's a particularly strong race. We've seen this horse run well on multiple occasions at a Class 1 level, including a Grade 3 in Ireland. We know she is a classy horse, so as long as she is as good at this trip on testing ground, she still offers value at her current odds.
Al Aasy 11/4 – Newbury 2.35
I am a huge fan of Convergent, but I firmly believe he needs a little juice in the ground to be seen to best effect. I tipped him up last season at Leopardstown against Al Aasy, and he was impressive, but on this faster surface, I can see a reverse in that form.
Al Aasy is getting on in age, but based on last year, he still has a lot to show at this level. He is a gatekeeper for the Group 1 races, and is prolific at Group 2 and 3 level. He will be ridden cold from the back of the field, so it could be a painful viewing. If he gets a clear passage, he could be pouncing late on.
Bintaryana 14/1 – Nottingham 4.37
This is a race full of unexposed, lightly raced horses, but from what we've seen from the horses so far, it doesn't look the strongest. Bintaryana is a horse who should improve after the recent winter break, as he has a superb sprinting pedigree and is related to some good horses.
He didn't run a bad race on debut when going off at 33/1. He ran on inside the final furlong, so with that experience under his belt, he should know his job better.
Longlands 9/4 – Bangor-on-Dee 5.17
Whenever Nicky Henderson sends a runner up to Bangor, they always have to be respected, as his record at the track is very strong.
Nicky has sent up three horses to the Welsh track, but I was most interested in Longlands on debut, as he is at a backable price of 9/4. Nicky is 2/7 and has three runner-up horses in bumper races at Bangor in the last five years. Also, he has a strike rate of 25% in this type of race this season.
The pedigree of Longlands looks well-suited to bumper races, as he is by Crystal Ocean, who has produced some useful horses in bumper races in his short sire career to date.
