If you're very much into backing shorter-priced horses, Royal Ascot has been for you this year.
There have been nine winning favourites, and I'd say 90% of the races haven't actually been a ‘race'. The winners have been winning easily, and it's not a great spectacle. Obviously, if you're backing the winners, you will not care the slightest, but it hasn't been a festival for looking outside of the box like it usually is.
Signora 15/8 (2pt) – Ascot 2.30 (Albany Stakes Group 3)
In terms of the opening races, I don't think I have been as confident as I am in Signora. In my opinion, this could win this race with a serious amount of authority.
I really rate the Lady Iman form line, and I think Lady Iman is a serious juvenile sprinter, but I think Signora could be better. This filly has an amazing pedigree and was pitched into the deep end by Aidan on debut. He hasn't done it much this year, but he put Signora into a Group 3 on debut, and she ran with plenty of credit. In my opinion, she was the best horse in the race. The Lady Iman form has already been franked for Royal Ascot, with True Love winning on Day 2.
Signora wasn't the pick of Ryan Moore on debut, and she was a decent price of 12/1. Wayne Lordan held her up at the rear of the field and gradually brought her into contention. She travelled like a horse with a lot of speed, and she stayed on towards the end. Wayne wasn't hard on her, and it was definitely about getting experience. With that experience, I think she will be a tough nut to crack and can reverse the form with the runner-up (Green Sense).
Last year's winner from Aidan's yard won the Group 3 that Signora contested on debut. Fairy Godmother looked like a smart horse at RA last year, but won that Naas sprint on her second start. It's promising that she has gone down the same route.
I mentioned her pedigree at the start, she is by Frankel and out of Heartache, who was a very good sprinter for Clive Cox. I am tempted to back her for the 1000 Guineas Antepost at 33/1, as if she wins this, that price will be halved. Obviously, antepost betting is very risky, and you can multiply that by backing an Aidan O'Brien horse, as it is pretty much the luck of the draw which horse goes where due to him having so many top horses.

Rough couple of days but feeling a bit better today.
I’m going to put up what I think will win but I haven’t backed anything yet for 2 reasons.
1. The odds on offer on most if not all horses is well below what you will get on opening show. Yes there’s BOG but if they shorten after opening show then you lose out.
2. The market has been worth following and some horses you might have fancied have drifted like a barge. If they do then you need to look elsewhere.
2.30 Based on the 2yr old races already run Signora is probably a point and shoot scenario but for me she’s too short and is that price purely based on what happened in those other races.
Fitzella won well lto but the horse who finished 2nd that day is the one I’m interested in at a price.
Tahalel fell out of the gates , ran in the slipstream of the winner but as it was his debut ran out of steam towards the end. He went off 6/5f so plenty was expected of him.
Fitzella had the benefit of a run so it was no disgrace to come 2nd and will surely come on a ton for the experience. The price difference between the 2 doesn’t make sense to me.
3.05 Shadow of Light is the right fav but his winning has been on softer surfaces and this will be the quickest ground he will have faced. Appleby also hasn’t had a winner at this meeting since 2022 so I’m against him here.
I don’t think Babouche is that good even though he beat Whistle jacket easily lto but the latter is a pig imo.
Jonquil had an entry for the Jersey but has chosen to go here instead leaving Juddmonte with no entry so I’m hoping they’ve chosen correctly. Has decent form in the book being just touched off in the french 2k.
3.40 I like French Duke here. Looks to be another plot for Varian and Wathnan just like French Master on Tuesday
4.20 no strong opinion on this race. I might go for January being by Kingman who does really well with his offspring at Ascot but I’ll watch the market.
5.00 Zgharta
Looks very well h’capped based on his last run. The horse that finished 3rd won nto and is now rated 90 so a mark of 88 looks lenient on h’cap debut. Understudy also finished 4th in that race and ran really well to finish 2nd in the Ribblesdale albeit went up in trip.

Terrible comeback run but he is a few bits better than these.you do well to comeback and win against this track Woodbines/Canada after big layoffs.
Insurance bet TOP 3 @ 7/4 looks to good safety wise in an eight horse race…but of course were after a win now he’s had a prep 🤷
