Racing Tips:Iconic Muddle can put the bookies in trouble

Rizzel has decided to take Sunday off so I've been asked to step in to cover. It's been a while since I've been on the thread but it's good to see all the usual faces in the comments section are still here and giving their input into the thread.

Sunday's racing cards aren't that great, there's some okay racing in Ireland, a couple of jumps in the UK and a pretty poor flat meeting at Newcastle.

I've got 3 selections for tomorrow, hopefully we can land some profit.

Iconic muddle 3/1 – 3:15 Doncaster

A competitive veterans race which is normally bang up Rizzels street. I narrowed it down to Gary Moore's Iconic muddle.

I had a look down at his racing career compared to the rest of the field and he doesn't have as many miles on the old legs compared to the rest of the field which I think is something you should always look at when studying these veteran races.

Iconic muddle was normally seen racing over 2m2f last year but was recently stepped up in distance on his last outing ( Only raced twice this year ) where he finished 2nd by half a length to Stan Sheppards Highstakesplayer. I think that's a nice piece of form to take into the race given Highstakesplayer was bang informed having won 2 races before that and is being aimed at a bigger race at Aintree. I managed to catch a quick replay of that particular race and if it wasn't for a mistake 3 from home I think he could of well went and won that day as he recovered well and made up some decent ground to get back into contention.

Special mention to Cross park who contest this race at the age of 14! You'd think they'd give the old boy some retirement by now..

My gift to you 15/8 – 3:50 Doncaster

My 2nd selection comes from Doncaster again.

My Gift To You has thrived since joining James Owen. He has won twice over hurdles and has also taken well to the fences winning twice over them too.

He failed on his last outing to make it a hat trick of wins over fences when he finished 2nd behind an improved sort at Southwell. The two of them broke roughly 20 lengths clear of the rest that day and a 4lb hike in the weights for that effort shouldn't stop him going close in this contest.

He also has jockey Harry Cobden on board doing the steering which is a clear positive in itself.

Pocklington 2/1 – 6:00 Newcastle

My last selection comes from the flat meeting at Newcastle. I'm not going to blabber on with this write-up as I'm backing against a 1/3 favourite in this small 4-runner affair.

After watching Pocklington's last outing, I just thought he was the clear value play in this race to upset the applecart.

He's bred to be a smart sprinter and showed that when winning nicely on debut at this track at the end of January. It's hard to know what he beat that day however the 3rd place has since gone on to win beating a short-priced Roger Varian runner on the day.

The Archie Watson trained Army Ethos who finished runner-up in last year's Coventry Stakes has quite a significant layoff to prove having not been seen since June of last year. With this being only a 4 runner field It could get tactical and I thought he was worth taking on.
