Racing tips: Theatre Glory has a great chance on a sound surface over a new trip in the Grade 2

Richie McLernon, what were you doing on Thor De Cerisy. The horse was 5L clear at the last and he's just got to pop over and for me the jockey is to blame, as he was to blame for the ride on the horse last time out.

To walk away with no winner on Saturday is tough to take, especially with the horse I've just mentioned who was 9/1 and Paisley Park staying on in Paisley Park fashion, but all too late. My NAP was 3rd and didn't quite see the trip out, but will land a decent pot at some stage. Weclom To Cartries should be winning races like that given the reputation he has and the amount he costs, but fair play to the winner, I wouldn't have backed him if you gave me all week to study the race. Hitman and War Lord weren't great, more emphasis on War Lord who just looked laboured.

Doncaster 2:35 – Theatre Glory 15/2 (1pt, WilliamHill)

It could be very foolish of me to go against Marie's Rock now she's back against the mares, but I've always had niggling doubts about her over 3m and for that reason, I'm happy enough to take her on.

Don't get me wrong, on her day she is the best horse in this race (Marie's Rock) but she is far too headstrong to be running over 3m, but she might be able to get away with it today against the mares, but I wouldn't be backing her with stolen money at those prices. It's a strange one to see Sam Twiston-Davies getting a ride for Nicky Henderson, but he's on my fancy, Theatre Glory who attempts this trip for the first time and it could bring out further improvement from this likeable mare. This horse relishes good racing ground, so her performances on soft doesn't really make me think she has lost her mojo as she has always wanted good ground and when she gets it, she is a really solid horse.

She battered a Listed Mares race at Warwick last year when she got her good ground, producing an RPR of 146 and she was full of running at the finish. She ran a creditable race at Cheltenham, but that on soft ground and she wasn't disgraced at Sandown on soft ground when finishing 3rd to Knappers Hill. For me, she has looked a bit laboured this year over 2m 4f and looks in need of the step up in trip, as she has lacked that change of gear, so this step up to 3m on a galloping track will hopefully give her a chance to showcase her ability. Over 2m 5f she has stayed on nicely in the past so there's plenty of optimism that she'll stay.
