IT'S the last day of 2017 and my final day of headlining the racing thread after doing it for 46 months. Wow, that’s gone quick.
And it’s also the last day for Johnb Racing after a successful year for members. We were in the winners enclosure five times as owners, not bad for a first year, and also invested in a greyhound. From January 1 the racing club will be known as Pjilippa Racing.
We ran a competition for members to choose the name and this was one we thought was the best. Philippa means “Lover Of Horses”.
We are a non-profit racing club meaning after members receive their money the rest goes to our good causes. No one running the club receives any money, including myself, and in 2017 we managed to raise just over £15,000 which was with prize money and money I received from this site for headlining the thread.
So thank you to Mr F and admin for that. The money was spent at Xmas giving hot meals to about 300 people a day for a week and our Secret Santa for less privileged children. We loved doing it although we wish it wasn’t needed but it is and we loved it.
We want 2018 to be a better year with more money raised from prize money and hopefully getting more members. We are setting ourselves a target of £100,000 as that would let us do more next Christmas but more importantly it would allow us to start work on our first shelter.
We feel a roof over your head should be a basic fundamental human right, as should food and warmth. We have also set up a GoFundMe account so hopefully that can raise more.
December is 82.3pts down after two winners on Saturday at 11-4 and 7-4 including the Nap.
I will continue to post some selections on here as a comments and not as thread headliner. Good luck to everyone on Sunday and Happy New Year.
Well done to all the winners and let's hear your thoughts for Sunday.

Lingfield 11.40

Captain Pugwash was unlucky last time after being badly hampered, he lost a few lengths but flew home to be beaten a half length. It is a stronger race this but he does receive weight and he is really a winner without a penalty here as he would definitely have won here last time. If his early race positioning is better he should take a bit of stopping over this longer distance.

Lingfield 12.10

Renny’s Lady has only had the one run and I thought it was impressive when fourth to Dancing Brave Bear. Renny’s Lady was 50-1 that day. She was held up and ran very green and was being pushed along from a long way out but made up a lot of ground late on when the penny dropped, this is a pretty weak affair that Renny’s Lady should be winning.

Lingfield 12.40

Ojala is my Nap and won last time out. That was his fourth run and he had improved with every run and there is no reason why he can’t do so again although he wouldn’t need to improve to win. It’s also noteworthy that Adam Kirby is onboard this time.

Lingfield 1.15

Celestial Spheres ran a stinker last time and it’s difficult to see what went wrong. He wasn’t the fastest away and was held up, he didn’t make up much ground but has form to suggest something wasn’t right. He beat Monarchs Glen a short head and has other pieces of form to suggest he can win this.

Welcome back theplug. How did you manage that.

  4. u2me413 6 years ago

Nobody comes close to John for antepost selections hope you will continue to share with us your long-term selections. Never seen anyone as gifted, so many big priced winners across the period you’ve headlined this thread. Hope we haven’t lost you because of the trolls.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Admin and myself have communicated with Johnb and I’m sorry it’s come to this.
Trolls will never influence us but we reckoned it was better to take him out of the firing line for now.
His contributions will still be valued and still be welcomed and we hope he stays with us.
For now though there will be one racing thread by Alan Thomson and comments including Johnb’s should go there.

    11.40 lingfield spirit of sarwan 14s , Mach one 13/2 , shadow warrior 12s

SOS did best of the off the pace runners lto over CD and only nudged up a lb. ran a decent 2nd here before.
mach one been racing on the sand recently but won and placed at Chelmsford so versatile in that regard.
one I did like also was shadow warrior who has ran well fresh in past when 3rd behind two horses better than hel face today and has form figs of 6-2-2 on aw , 6th excused as on debut. Kirby booked so looks like a good run expected.

singles and a cfc and ctc for fun

Just a little reminder of my antepost Classics selections over the past four years on here, some of my selections were pulled out before the race but in those four years five horses have turned up to run in their intended race, four of them won, Taghrooda 33-1, Golden Horn 33-1, Galileo Gold 25-1 and Churchill 20-1 to give me an 80% win rate when my selections run
The fifth horse was Idaho 25-1 who came third

2018 comes down to Clemmie 25-1 in the 1000 Guineas and Magical 33-1 in the Oaks, hopefully one will win to make it five winners in five seasons

A little look back at my previous Classic runners and if I had to pick one favourite it would have to be Golden Horn in The Derby because he wasn’t even entered for the race when I advised him and I made a strong case for him staying the distance when even the connections of Golden Horn didn’t think he would

    Very touching story Johnb.
Thankyou for all your work and good luck moving forwards.
    Apologies for any unacceptable abuse.
Money talks, but not everyone wants to listen.
    Great antipost tipping.
Come on clemme and magical, it would be a great way to bow out.

i would like to thank you john b for all you have done over the past few years i remember you just used to post tips on the racing thread with an unbelievable success rate but over the last 12 months something changed whether it was just luck only you know, but I wish you luck in the future in whatever you do and it is good to see someone putting back into society thanks again

Sorry to hear your thread is closing johnb, I’ve had some real money spinner’s over the last few years following your selections and also some barren spells, but you take the rough with the smooth. Can I just wish you all the best for the future and once again thank you for a good few touches from the pockets of my local bookie.

      John b
As another year comes to a close, so another book closes with the end of your racing thread.
I go back a fair bit on here to the days of milsely for those with distant memories, and since you took over the thread my knowledge of the game has improved radically thanks to your depth of knowledge.

I’m more a lover of the sport rather than a day to day gambler and my betting is more or less restricted to betting at meets I actually attend and championship racing, chelts, ascot, goodwood, aintree etc as I find throwing tips up daily cannot pay long term personally , so I didn’t envy you feeling obliged to put tips up daily as its very hard to show long term profit doing this, you have achieved this in previous years which is very commendable indeed and is a tribute to your knowledge.

Generally when I asked for into regarding a horse at meets I am attending you answered in an informative, courteous manner and I thank you for that, sometimes we disagreed, but no one is right or wrong in this game until the race has been run, so debate is healthy as long as it don’t turn personal, which unfortunately it seems to have recently with people expecting a conveyor belt of winners on tap, which is unrealistic.

Happy new year john and hope you join in the debating side here when you get time as that is how we help each other try to beat the bookies by tapping in to relevant information ain’t it.

Best of luck John, and keep watching the racing as I’m sure your tips will provide plenty of winners for punters In future

  10. derekj1978 6 years ago

John, I rarely comment on here but I have followed you since day one. I’ve had some fantastic days and I’ve also lost a fortune at times , but I always went with your judgement , except when it comes to Hibs!!!! Never forget taghrahooda and coming out of a Motherwell game up at Aberdeen to learn it had won, amazing day as had £200 ew. Also remember a treble a few winters ago. You’ll always get people moaning as it’s dealing with cash but i would never have done any better picking my own. I have also cursed the tips at times when I’ve lost 1000’s but continued to follow because of the good times I have had. All the best John and thanks

Yes i really hope so Mr F.

I forgot to mention one of my favourite tipsters before so di nero hapoy new year love those long shots you have had in over the years.

Bill1958 , I echo your words, many many thanks John.

  15. u2me413 6 years ago

It was always the same 2 or 3 idiots on his back, never contributing only giving John a hard time. Never understood why you didn’t include antepost as part of your over all totals at the end of year. Rogue Angel was great pick for the Irish national if I recall won a tidy sum.

  16. u2me413 6 years ago

And we were so close the English national with the last samurai.

You highlighted Vicente was a great shout for the English national fair enough it went down at the first if I recall but sure it went straight back out next time and won the Scottish national

i for one always appreciated the hard work you put in for the thread & had some great winning days?

  22. jazzerbhoy 6 years ago

Johnb may i on behalf of the silent majority wish you and your racing club all the very best for 2018.
You have been ispirational in how i bet now and through this site has taught me never to go over budget or bet like i used to on every race whilst sitting in the bookies. Without this thread i wouldnt be enjoying my flutter i would be the same betting on anything and everything.
Stats of course are used by the trolls to beat you and others over the head with, and of course it doesnt look good, but it doesnt tell the whole story as horses fall bad rides by jockeys etc all hinder the big picture.
Golden Horn was a highlight as was all the other big priced winners you have given us.
You have a special talent and will be sorely missed.
Thanks for the memories and the winners. I remember how hard you had it in the early days on here being homeless etc to see you working for the benefit of others shows all you need to know of the person you are.
All the best to you and yours.
Looks like a lucky 15 on yours today to finish with a bang.

It’s still me, just changed my profile picture,
I will still be posting selections but just not headlining, the pressure is no less as I put all the pressure on myself with my high standards and I feel there is some unfinished business, the day I stop studying is the day I die,
Still busy at work but at least my work has me around horses so studying is easy

To the other guys who post onwards and upwards for 2018 it’s going to be a great year for the racing thread. Happy New Year to everyone there is going to be some booms on here this year.???

  33. Johnb 6 years ago

It would have been nice to finish the year with a full house but four winners, a non runner and two doubles from 7 selections in the last two days isn’t too bad after a frustrating year
Saturday 30th December, maybe that was the day normal service resumed as the last two days have seen a 23.57pt profit

I never shy away from my stats even though they are poor reading this year, December ended with a 70pt loss and the year ended 275pts down, apologies for a poor year.
For once it was the multiples that cost me as the singles were in profit for the year

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Great finish – hopefully that continues for you in the new year.

    • Johnb 6 years ago

These are the stats I have on me, if they are wrong I apologise

      August +26.97
      September +28.89
      October -4.93
      November -36.64
      December -69.67

Thanks Johnb, some great days, but a bad run which I am sure you would reverse.
Nice to know while you were feeding the needy, MrF was plotting to bin you.
Loyalty my backside, he came on here defending you and deleting posts to protect his site.
You made this site and do not forget it.
Thanks again and all the best for the future

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

I’ve never plotted to bin him – and he actually he’s not been binned. So I await an apology.
You have no idea about the circumstances involved in taking the decision which is admin’s anyway and it wasn’t taken lightly.
I’ve always defended Johnb and often been criticised for doing so.

    • theblack 6 years ago

He has been removed from headlining the racing.
      Is that being binned/sacked/made redundant?

Has he posted tips for tomorrow? Yes.
Has he had a go at me? No.
