Racing tips: A repeat performance of his chase debut should see Rath Gaul Hill bang there at the finish

It was just the one runner on Tuesday which came in the bumper as the other selection was a NR. Heart Over Head was backed in after the Skelton runner was a NR, trading 11/10 for most of the day. He drifted before the off into second favourite and the Pauling runner which saw some late money got the win and did it well. My fancy was held up off the pace, got unbalanced at the path crossing and couldn't get close to the winner.

Doncaster 2:05 – Rath Gaul Hill 11/1 (0.5pt EW, Bet365)

With a large amount of rain expected to sweep across Doncaster on Wednesday morning, which will make the ground testing, and nothing at Taunton which catches the eye, I'll be keeping my money in my pocket other than a bet on Rath Gaul Hill.

I think you've got to say that he was a clear non-stayer over 2m 7f on testing ground at Chepstow last time out, but he shaped better than the bare result of the PU next to his form. He went through the race nicely, and jumped as well as a two-race novice could've done, but when the gas tank emptied he was a goner. However, I'm more inclined to judge him on his fourth-placed effort at Uttoxeter on heavy ground the time before on his chase debut where he ran with heaps of credit and based on that performance it is only a matter of time before he lands a race over fences.

I've mentioned the Uttoxeter form line in recent days as I stuck up Thor De Cerisy a few weeks ago when he was about to hose up at Uttoxeter, but the time before that race he ran in the same Uttoxeter race that Rath Gaul Hill ran in. The form has worked out in some style since and would've been much better if Thor De Cerisy stayed on his feet as he was going to hack up on his next start. The winner of that race went to Taunton and won next time out and did it carrying a big weight on his back and the third, Eaton Collina, won by 25L at Wetherby two runs after, so a repeat performance by Rath Gaul Hill should see him bang there, and potentially tough to beat, especially off a 3lb lower mark today.
