Monday’s Racing Tips – Bramble Jelly is potentially over priced on hurdles debut

Rizzel's sole selection yesterday ran a disappointing race at Cheltenham. Jonjo held his mount up towards the rear and after a mistake three from home he was eventually pulled up before the second last.

Bramble Jelly 9/1 – Leicester 1.10

Not much caught my eye on Monday as a safe bet, but I will advise a small wager on Bramble Jelly at Leicester, who I thought was potentially overpriced as the outsider in this small four-runner field.

Small runner fields tend to get tactical and given this is a low-class affair with horses with no hurdles form, I can see this race becoming messy. The horse that I thought was worth a small wager was the Dominic French Davis trained Bramble Jelly who at 9/1 could possibly outrun those odds.

It took a while for my selection to get of the mark when running on the flat ( won at the 17th attempt ) but he did run to a somewhat consistent level, so be it at Class 6 level. The forecast ground at Leicester is currently good to soft, however, they are expecting some rain throughout the night. Notably, Bramble Jellys only career win came at Bath on heavy so I thought he could possibly handle the ground better than his rivals. This contest represents a significant step up in trip for these horses, so there is going to be question marks on all of their heads regarding who sees the trip out best.

There is some optimism for my selection, whose dam won over hurdles and if he takes to jumping then he could go well at an attractive price.
