Yesterday’s sole selection Giant Sequoia was mightily disappointing.
My selection broke well, was ridden prominently by jockey Ryan Moore, but when push came to shove he went backwards and ultimately found very little off the bridle.
The race was eventual won by the Joseph O’Brien trained Folsom Blues who looked mightily impressive as he scooted clear to win by around 5/6 lengths. I wouldn’t say the result was a total shock as JP O’Brien has his string in the best of nick at present but to dominate a Group 1 in that fashion seems a bit of a farce, regardless of how impressive the horse was on the day. To be fair, it wasn’t the only shock over the last few days in Ireland but that’s flat racing for you.
Red Point Blue 2/1 – Windsor 2.12
Not a whole lot caught my eye on Monday, which is to be expected given how poor the quality normally is.
The one horse that I thought was worth a bet was Red Point Blue for trainer James Tate and jockey Rossa Ryan.
My selection has raced twice in his short racing career but has shown clear signs of ability on each start. He finished second on debut behind Kevin Ryan’s Battle Fever, who has since finished runner up behind Aiden O’Briens Sun Goddess but was a tad disappointing when a turned over favourite at Hamilton last time out. With that said, the 6L defeat at the hands of Sun Goddess is a decent piece of form.
Red Point Blue then finished fourth on his most recent outing at Newmarket. He was soundly beaten by 6 and a half lengths that day but I thought it wasn’t a bad run. The eventual winner was the Eve Johnson trained Night In Vegas who has since boosted the form when winning at Doncaster last Thursday.
Rossa Ryan replaces Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle for this contest and I think Red Point Blue is the one they all have to beat.
