As Fast As Wind was well backed into just above even money in the opener at Huntingdon, but couldn't land a blow.
He is usually held up in his races, so today's tactics were no different and not a shock. However, keeping her that far off the pace when the other two market principles are from a yard in top form was a big mistake.
She was forever playing catch-up to the winner, who had lengths in hand. I think she will continue to win races back in handicaps at a lower level, but with that much money down, you'd have liked to see her win.
Pure Carbon managed to secure a win on Sunday. He jumped a couple too low, but got away with it and confirmed the win with two good jumps in the final straight to hold off the Billy Aprahamian runner.
Park Annonciade 8/1 (1pt) – Plumpton 2.38
I thought the jockey booking of Sean Bowen on Sarah Humphrey's horse was a big eyecatcher. James Best does the majority of the riding for Sarah, and he's at Plumpton today, so booking Sean Bowen gives me a feeling that they fancy their chances.
He made a low-key start to life under Sarah Humphrey on his stable debut at Sedgefield last time out. He finished last of four, miles behind the winner, so you're banking on him stripping fitter for that run.
There are some interesting horses in this race, with the majority of them needing to prove they are capable of winning off their handicap marks.
Park Annonciade was a winner in a Class 2 handicap hurdle at Haydock in 2023 off this mark, so we know for certain that he can hang at this level off his current handicap rating.
He hasn't gone off the boil since that win, but he's been consistent in defeat and has found it hard to get his head back in front. If Sarah has him right this time around, he has a decent opportunity to get a win on the board.
Back it with Tote (no fixed odds)Redbridge Rambler 9/2 (1pt) – Hereford 2.20
Two of the four horses against Redbridge Rambler arrive with a win next to their name. Gris Majeur beat Redbridge Rambler last time out, but now there is a huge weight swing in favour of my fancy.
Copshill Lad and The Long Point are making their chasing debuts from 190 + days away from the track. If either of them is ready first time out and can put in a solid round of jumping, they are players.
D'Jo Dela Barriere has won two on the bounce, one over fences and the other over hurdles. The form of those wins isn't the strongest, so I thought it was worth chancing Redbridge Rambler.
Martin Keighley's son, Freddie, takes the ride and removes 7lb from the horse. That means he is running off a weight of 10st 8lbs, which is a stone less than the nearest horse in the race.
We know he is on a good handicap mark, as he has won off 103 and 99, and today he is running off 93 with the claim. The ground should be perfect for him, and if he can push on from his last start, I make him the one to beat.
