The opening day of the Aintree Grand National Festival was a great spectacle, and with all three of my selections winning on the day, I couldn't have asked for a better start.
If you took the treble it paid roughly 14/1 depending on what odds you got at the time of placing your bet.
Day two of the festival is upon us and it's Ladies Day. We've another seven races to look forward too and hopefully we can find another winner from somewhere, in what looks a harder day of punting.
All our detailed tips for Ladies Day at the Grand National Festival can be found below:

Heart Wood 7/2 – 13:45 Aintree
I'll be honest, this was a race that I wasn't going to get involved with at first, but my gut's telling me Heart Wood is worth a bet, so I'm going to stick with my instinct and put him up.
It's a pity the opening price on him is pretty much gone. I think he opened up around 8/1, which was just crazily overpriced. He's now as short as 7/2 in the market at the time of writing, but even at that price, I think he is still worth a bet.
Trust me when I say it takes a good thing to land a Grade 3 Dublin Racing Festival handicap by 14 lengths, but that is exactly what my selection, Heart Wood, did.
He disposed of some decent sorts that day, such as James Du Berlais and inothewayurthinkin. The market has inothewayurthinkin as the favourite for this race since his win at Cheltenham last month. He stepped up in the trip at Cheltenham and has now proved he stays, which is probably why he's ahead in the market in terms of price.
Heart Wood now follows suit and takes a significant step up in trip for this race. Given the nature of his previous win, I'm pretty confident he'll stay this far with no problems. He acts and is proven on heavy ground. He also arrives here fresher than most in this field, having had a two-month break since the Dublin Racing Festival.
3.30 – My Pension Expert Melling Chase
Conflated 10/1 – 15:30 Aintree
I may be going a bit mad with this selection as he comes with his risks, but at the prices, I couldn't help myself from placing a small wager on him.
I'll be honest, I was a bit underwhelmed with his performance in the Ryanair when he finished third, six lengths behind eventual winner Protektorat. I'm not totally sure what happened that day, but as a result, connections have now opted for the addition of cheekpieces. I agree with the decision, and if they have the desired effect, he could very well bounce back to form in this.
Conflated has bundles of ability; there is no doubting that. He finished third in last season's Gold Cup at Cheltenham, just over a length behind Gerri Colombe at Down Royal in November of last year, and finished second in the 2022 bowl. Surely, a run of similar quality to those previous outings would see him bang there in this.
He's been campaigned over a variety of different trips in his career, but he is back over his optimum in this, and I simply couldn't ignore him and his possible chances at 10/1. It's a pity there are only the two places on offer as each way ideally would have been the play in this, but given that's off the table, It's a straight-to-win bet advised here.
I thought I'd touch quickly on Jonbon as he is one of my favourite horses, and if he wins, it'll be a bit of a kick in the teeth. All that aside, he is far too short in the market against this opposition. He isn't proven over the trip, and with the form of the Henderson yard still questionable, I decided to look elsewhere.
Good luck, and as usual, let me know in the comments your fancies for today's racing.

Aquaduct -Race 8…Montebello 4/1 **** Skybet -Bet365 etc
Was moved up in grade to a 45K race after a good 2nd in a 37K claiming race to a horse that “franked the form” next run so it was an obvious move by trainer but pretty poor – pretty, pretty poor from what he showed before moving up in grade. 🤷
This is a 28K claiming so unless after 11 runs he’s fine 4/1 looks good
