Federal Envoy Can Back Up Southwell Success

Not a great day unfortunately. My main selection Lion's Pride just wasnt good enough and Dubai Honours class showed in the end as Ryan Moore hit the front in a matter of strides as they turned the bend and that was that.

I'd like to know was backed further in the market into strong favourite from 5/2. He went to the front and jumped not too badly but he didn't seem to stay as well as I thought he would of and he very quickly drifted away in the business end.

In terms of the Irish Grand National it was always going to be a hard one picking the winner as it tends to be in those big competitive fields. Yeah Man was steady in the market and although finishing 9th I thought he ran a decent race. He was bang there at one point but 2 or 3 below par jumps in the latter stages blew his chances and he too fairly quickly drifted away.

Intense Raffels was the eventual winner and well done to the couple of people who fancied him in the comments, he was the only single priced horse to finish in the top 5 with a few of the fancied runners running well below par including the strong fancied Nick Rockett.

Tuesdays racing is pretty poor but I do have 3 selections, two from Pontefract and one from Wolverhampton.

Federal Envoy 11/8 – 1:45 Pontefract

Unless any of the new comers are anything special this to me looks like a two horse race between my selection Federal Envoy and Richard Faheys Dandy Devil.

Federal Envoy I thought looked quite impressive on debut when he saw of the challenge of John & Thady Gosdens Jayyash who cost a whooping €420,000. Although Federal Envoy only beat the Gosden runner by a neck in the end, Jayyash had the benefit of a previous run and I thought Federal Envoy looked well prepared and professional and should come on further for the debut success.

Karl Burke is a trainer who I'm a massive fan of, he's known for having his young horses ready to go. Burke won this back in 2021 with Spycatcher who has since went on to bigger things placing at group level. Of course it's early days to say wether Federal Envoy can be at that sort of level but he seems to be fairly thought of at this point.

The main danger looks to be Dandy Devil who also won on debut for Richard Fahey, he turned over Ed Bethells Kings Merchant who was sent of a 1/3 favourite. He also beat home Yorkshire Glory that day who runs in this race but that one would take to take a massive step forward to get involved in my opinion.

Vintage Clarets 10/3 – 3:15 Pontefract

My second selection from Pontefract is the Richard Fahey trained Vintage Clarets who is on a tough enough mark but I'm hoping he can carry on from where he left of last season. Vintage Clarets was in cracking form towards the end of last season. He ran well in some tough handicaps, in particular the one at Catterick back in October where he beat home Glorious Angel and Wen Moon who also both run in this race.

Glorious Angel is currently the market favourite and got the better of my selection by a couple of lengths when the pair met at Doncaster last year. Glorious Angel has a fitness edge having already ran twice this year but given my selection goes well fresh I'm more than happy to take the favourite on.

Current ground conditions at Pontefract are on the soft side which will suit Vintage Clarets as he enjoys a bit of cut in the ground, he's the type who shows great attitude when it comes to knuckling down in the business end and I'm hoping he can showcase that for us today.

King's Coronation 13/8 – Wolverhampton 6:00

My last selection comes from the evening meeting at Wolverhampton where I'm hoping King's Coronation can take a step forward from his debut run a few weeks ago.

He only managed fifth on debut and although he showed signs of inexperience there was also glimpses of promise and potential there. Jockey Tyler Heard had to endure a wide trip on that occasion which was less than ideal. He made headway in the latter stages of the race when the penny dropped but was unable to land any significant blow.

He takes a step up in trip tomorrow which should benefit him if you are going of breeding and with a more experienced jockey on board in Oisin Murphy I'm hoping he can get him settled and into a better position than he had to take last time out.
