Well no hiding the facts of Day 3 which was a total bloodbath for me. Envoi Allen, Crebilly and Brighterdaysahead were second, Djelo was placed at big odds and Where It All Began finished in the places, but it was a very tough day.

Dan Skelton got another couple of winners on the board and that took his tally up to four. Gordon Elliott managed to get a winner, the first of the week for him. It was nice to see Ben Jones get in the winner's enclosure for the first time in the Cheltenham Festival, he's a cracking young rider and Harry Redknapp enjoyed that win as well.

All of my detailed previews for Day 4 at the Cheltenham Festival can be found below:

13:30 – JCB Triumph Hurdle

14:10 – BetMGM County Handicap Hurdle

14:50 – Albertt Bartlett Novices' Hurdle

15:30 – Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase

16:10 – St James's Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters' Chase

16:50 – Mrs Paddy Power Mares' Chase

17:30 – Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle

13:30 – JCB Triumph Hurdle

Willie Mullins has a very good record in this race, who'd have thought? He brings an army over for this race with seven runners, and I think it would have been a really tough task for Paul Townend to choose. He's stuck to his guns from the DRF and rides Storm Heart again, which isn't a huge surprise as he clearly got a good feel off him on debut for him to ride him in the Grade 1 at Leopardstown. Storm Heart seemed to be caught a bit flat-footed by the pace of the winner, and I think Cheltenham will suit him much better, with stamina more of his thing at this trip, and I struggle to see him not hitting the frame.

I thought Mighty Bandit was of interest at a big price. He was owned by the Caldwell lot when trained by Gordon Elliott, he was sold at their dispersal sale for 420,000 Euros, but that saw Warren Greatrex get him. This lad did nothing wrong on debut, he romped home and in hindsight, the form looks very good. The runner-up who was smashed by Mighty Bandit was the winner of the Boodles Juvenile handicap on Day 1, and that horse won that race with ease.

Full race preview:

13:30 – JCB Triumph Hurdle

14:10 – BetMGM County Handicap Hurdle

My first dart landed on Willie Mullins' Westport Cove. This horse was once a favourite for the Martin Pipe, or at the top of the market at the very least, they decided to come to this race as everyman and his dog is raving about their chance in the Martin Pipe. Westport Cove pushed the favourite of the Martin Pipe to the line, so if they fancy that horse so strongly for that race, this lad must be on a very good mark too, especially considering they were close in the market for quite a while when both pitched into that race.

The other horse I am chancing at bigger odds is Petit Tonnerre. This horse has been laid out for a Festival handicap all year long and Jonjo Sr has had me and many punters on strings with him teasing us over fences and with them evidently not trying.

Full race preview:

14:10 – BetMGM County Handicap Hurdle

14:50 – Albertt Bartlett Novices' Hurdle

I eventually landed on taking a punt on Henry De Bromhead's horse, Chigorin. I'm not worried about backing a bigger-priced horse for this race, the stats tell you that this is a race for an outsider to improve and go on and win, and I think Chigorin has a better chance than the odds would suggest. I thought he was impressive last time out at Fairyhouse on heavy ground over 2m 7f where he looked like a proper staying horse.

Full race preview:

14:50 – Albertt Bartlett Novices' Hurdle

15:30 – Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup

It could be my heart ruling my head for backing Corach Rambler for this race, as connections will have the Grand National in the back of their minds, but I can't let him go unbacked at the odds he is. There is something about this horse and the spring, he seems to properly come alive and given his record at Cheltenham which reads 1,1,1 it's hard to go against him as an EW player.

Full race preview:

15:30 – Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase

16:10 – St James's Place Festival Challenge Cup

Given the nature of the race and that we've had 2x 66/1 winners, 2x 16/1 winners and 25/1 winner in the last ten years I'll chuck a few quid on an outsider and I've opted for Quintin's Man. There were a few other outsiders I liked, with Time Leader and Sine Nomine, but the former seems to do his best running on good ground (has good form from Aintree last year) and the latter is getting shorter and shorter in the market, so I've gone for Quintin's Man. This horse looks like a dour stayer

Full race preview:

16:10 – St James's Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters' Chase

16:50 – Mrs Paddy Power Mares' Chase

I am not going to bother to have a bet in this race, I am not confident enough to back the favourite and I'm not confident enough to back something against her.

Full race preview:

16:50 – Mrs Paddy Power Mares' Chase

17:30 – Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle

This is a pretty big guessing game, as you're trying to find out which horse is a potentially graded horse in a handicap and going off what Ruby Walsh has said, Quai De Bourbon is that horse. Ruby came out and said this is NAP of the week, which is a bold statement given the number of horses Willie Mullins has had during the week and those that have gone in at much shorter odds, but there has been a big wave of confidence for this horse for quite a while and connections haven't been hiding it.

    Day 4

    Triumph

With Sir Gino out the door has been swung wide open for yet another WM winner and hopefully it’s Kargese who I backed before the DRF at 10s. There have been 25 mares run at odds less than 14/1. 5 have won and 10 have placed so they have a decent record.
I also put up Mighty Bandit on weds at 66/1 that was before SG was withdrawn so a 30p rule 4 but still works out better than the odds on offer now. If he returns to the form of his first run has every chance.

    County

Skelton and Mullins are responsible for 8 of the last 9 winners so not a stat to ignore although my main Fancy is King of Kingsfield who is weighted to confirm form with Absurde, Bialystok and Zenta. However I’ve had to have savers on both Absurde who makes his h’cap debut (Mullins has previously sent 2 first time handicappers here and both won) and Leau Du Sud who is Skeltons sole representative.

    Albert Bartlett

Reading Tommy Wrong is just too short now. He may be still unbeaten and have the best form in the book but he needs to prove he stays and I think at an ew price Lecky Watson represents some value.
Has already won over 2m7f and was only 1/2L behind Supreme winner Slade Steel over 20f and I just think he’s a bit more battle hardened which is something definitely required for this race.

    Gold Cup

Won’t go into detail on this race as I think it’s fairly straight forward but will try a tricast

    1. GDC
    2. FASTORSLOW
    3. CORRACH RAMBLER

    Hunter Chase

Fav probably wins but last year’s winner represents the value and has won all his races since so has done nothing wrong.
    Premier Magic 6/1

    Mares Chase

Dinoblue providing she stays should win.

    Martin Pipe

Only 1 fave has ever won this race so I hope Quai De Bourbon drifts as he’s my selection.
Giggenstown have run 17 horses in this race, 4 have won and 5 have placed so they have an excellent record.
No winner has ever carried 11st or less so that cuts half the field out including 2nd fav Waterford Whispers so hopefully that trend continues

Oops so he has, how did I miss that, been a long week.
Ran in the Imperial Cup last Saturday. Surely a lot to ask to recover so quickly from a tough race like that.
      Will leave him be.

You fell into the sales pitch ! He was probably on the eventual winner just uses the site to pump the price up a little who knows 😂 there are no certainties in racing as you don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes and if they are even wanting to win at all that day . But the way it’s worded like it’s some kind of inside info being passed on is the naughty bit and probably makes people lump heavier than usual but as they say fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me 😂 so it’s up to you if you want to keep getting your fingers burnt as we all do anyway from our own doing so don’t need anyone else to help in that department as well 🤣

1-30 Salvator mundi or majborough to win 9-4 bet365 special bet *

Salvator finished just behind the much touted sir Gino who would have been favourite for this race on its only race so far a year ago at auteuil 🇫🇷.
He was a shorter price than sir Gino that day and Mullins has been quoted as saying he thinks this is top class.
Just the lay off that’s a concern.

Majborough has a similar path to this race winning in France last april though he had a run out recently at leopardstown last month finishing a close up 3rd to a couple of these.
