It's almost here! The Cheltenham Festival 2024 is almost upon us and we're just about ready to enjoy four days of the best sporting action of the year.

Everyone has their own opinion when it comes to the Festival and I'll be sharing mine throughout the week as we try to beat the bookies. I'll be bringing you a race-by-race guide to all 28 races this week as well as a daily summary of tips where you can all share your thoughts and tips for each day.

All my detailed tips for Champions Day at the Cheltenham Festival can be found below:

Here we go…

13:30 – Supreme Novices' Hurdle

My dart for the Supreme has landed on Mystical Power's ownermate, Jerico Du Reponet. He showed a lot of attributes you'd want for a Supreme horse. He showed his determination to win, by battling hard to win a close finish. But what I liked the most was his final furlong, that was by far his most impressive furlong by the way he was hitting the line hard, and I think you're going to need a strong stayer for this race.

Full race preview:

14:10 – Arkle Chase

For some time now, I've been fancying Matata to run a huge race in this year's Arkle. Similar to the Supreme Novices' Hurdle race, the Arkle isn't a vintage renewal, and I think there could be a surprise in this race, with no candidate looking like they'll be a runaway winner. It could be suicide to side with a horse who will run from the front in a race which has many front runners, but I think Matata is the alpha front runner for this race and if Sam Twiston-Davies doesn't give this horse a ride like he did on The Real Whacker at last year's 3m novice chase, I'd be very surprised.

Full race preview:

14:50 – Ultima Handicap Chase

Despite the UK trainers having such a cracking record in this race, it can't remain like that forever so if you do like an Irish-trained horse you've got to go with your gut and that is what I am doing with The Goffer. He is an interesting candidate for the Ultima this year as Gordon Elliott has given this horse a totally different approach for this race, with the horse arriving fresh from a 142-day layoff.

I am surprised to see the odds of Weveallbeencaught being as short as they are, as when I went through the race and started to really fancy him I thought we would be getting 20/1, but here we are at much shorter odds, but I like his chances and have always liked this horse. The Nigel Twiston-Davies horse gets in this race right at the bottom of the weights at 10st 9lbs, with just one horse carrying less, and I think that could be huge for his chances of winning.

Full race preview:

15:30 – Champion Hurdle

Although it is sad to see Nicky Henderson's stable star not turning up, it has presented an open goal for State Man to land his first Champion Hurdle. You cannot take away the talent that Willie Mullins' 7yo has, if the great Constitution Hill wasn't around then State Man would've been spoken about in the list of great 2m hurdlers, but he has had to play second fiddle to CH, so in that respect it is nice to see him hopefully get his big day in the sun.

Full race preview:

16:10 – Mares' Hurdle

Even though I do have doubts about the stamina of Lossiemouth over 2m 4f on testing ground around a stiff track like Cheltenham, it's not enough for me to part with my money as she is the class horse on the day and if he does stay, she'll win this race on the bridle.

Full race preview:

16:50 – Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle

I will be siding with Nara for this race. Nara has clearly always had plenty of ability about her. She won a Listed hurdles race on her only start in France and has been tenderly handled in her two races for Henry De Bromhead since making move the over to Ireland. She was chucked straight into a Grade 3 on stable debut, she was novicey and clearly needed the run, but she didn't go unbacked that day, going off 11/2 against some decent horses who have since boosted the form.

Full race preview:

17:30 – National Hunt Chase

Mr Vango definitely deserves a shot in this race. This horse was a winning selection for me just 18 days ago in the Devon National and considering it was his first attempt beyond 3m, he proved that he stayed the trip and then some. He won the Devon National by 60L, and did so by putting them to the sword from the get-go under a great front-running ride by Ben Jones. Obviously, the form difference between the Devon National to today's race is chalk and cheese, but you know for certain that he'll stay the trip out and is the only horse in the race you won't have to worry about stamina problems with

I put my write ups for the races on yesterday’s thread so just putting up the names here, but just one more stat I found out on Mistergif that I thought was interesting.
In the past 10 years Willie Mullins has sent 4 horses to the Supreme that started their trade in France. 3 have won and the other was 2nd.

    Tuesday’s Selections

    1.30 Mistergif 12/1 ew
    2.10 Hunters Yarn 6/1 ew
    2.50 Chianti Classico/ The Goffer
    3.30 Stateman
    4.10 Lossiemouth (win) Ashroe Diamond w/o 85/40
4.50 Karia Des Blaises 33/1 6 places put up yesterday (as low as 12s now)
    5.30 Corbetts Cross 9/4

If you’re right as supersundae has only run in France it’s guaranteed a top 6 finish 😂😂.

Only kidding D.C. but I still don’t believe Mullins would chuck supersundae in here on stable debut if he didn’t think he’d run well.
You don’t need a pacemaker at this distance so he’s not here for that purpose.
Cheltenham can ruin a horse who is busting a gut to keep up with rivals who are miles ahead on ability.

It’s so difficult finding any sort of consistent tipping online.
Have been trawling through several websites and most pick different horses in most races bar state man and Lossiemouth so what hope have we got.

Willie not shy in sending runners into Grade 1’s first time out. If they win its a Grade 1 in the bag, if they lose they’re still a Novice for next season having gained so much experience from the run.

    Kitty’s Light 40/1 EW 6 places

He’s a proper stayer. Three huge wins in top handicaps last season. Same mark as Corach rambler last year.

    • elvis parsley 2 months ago

This could repeat corach rambler’s feat of the Ultima and grand national double if it wins today.
It’s about 20-1 for the grand national and carries just a weight of just 10-3.
You can halve the 20-1 if it wins the Ultima.
Good luck stevens97 ill pop her in my placepot now for sure.
      Good luck……

    Zarak the brave 3-30 cheltenham.
    12-1 ew extra 4 places.
22-1 ew 3 places (smaller stake).

Can’t see this not placing at least top 4.

As I’m a non believer in the unfair mares allowance this horse finished 4 lengths and 1.5 lengths behind the much vaunted Lossiemouth last year, strip away the unfair 7 pound allowance and i suggest zarak is at least as good if not better off level weights.

If Lossiemouth was running here instead of state man it would be favourite, point I’m making is zarak is only 5 and an improver while a few here are on the downturn.

Morning everyone . Sure most are concentrating on Cheltenham but just thought id share some pointers/stats for a Fergal O’brien horse I’m on today at Sedgefield.

Recoup 1.50 Sedgefield novices hurdle 2/1

Put a line through its last run. Found problem a few days after. Had genuine excuses for it. Had a wind op shortly after. They thought he was good enough to win that day as well and it was in a class 2 race. Back into class 4 today.

Showed a lovely attitude when winning at Ludlow in his race before beating Chocobloc a head. Chocobloc then went on to win a class 2 beating The Doyen Chief a short head. The Doyen Chief then went on to win 2 races after that. So there is some very strong form lines there.
Yard were amongst the winners yesterday. Yard have a 24% strike rate at the track with 7 from 24. That goes up to 33% in non handicaps ( as today’s race is). And up to 50% with 2 from 4 with their hurdlers.
Tedtwo is the one the early money has come for, was 7/2 opening show but been well backed overnight. Expect to see that change. Ther will be some nice bets going on Recoup just before the off.
Alot of confidence coming from the yard today for this. They like their other runner their today as well. I’ve had a little bit on the double at 17/1 but those odds will have shortened up now.
Wish everyone the best of luck with their own bets today and most of all enjoy the racing .

    Happy with Day 1 overall.
Chianti Classico won ((AP) 12/1 and Corbetts Cross at 9/4 and The Goffer placed at 7/1.
I also have Lossiemouth doubled with Ballyburn so the first half is in.
Some selections just didn’t act on the ground. Hopefully it’s a bit drier tomorrow.
Well done to all the winners today and onto tomorrow.

      ✔️
Turf Paradise Race 9 – Hèir has largely been tried on dirt and is winless on it but with some decent placings and times and would have a squeak in this tonight if it was on dirt but it’s scheduled “ON turf” as they say.
Good 3rd at this level ($31K Allowance) then 5th at 40K at Santa Anita which is a good standard to head to Turf Paradise with so not sure about the dirt as he clearly better on Turf and owners opt back to it tonight.
