It's almost here! The Cheltenham Festival 2023 is almost upon us and we're just about ready to enjoy four days of the best sporting action of the year.
Everyone has their own opinion when it comes to the Festival and I'll be sharing mine throughout the week as we try to beat the bookies. I'll be bringing you a race-by-race guide to all 28 races this week as well as a daily summary of tips where you can all share your thoughts and tips for each day.
All my detailed previews for Champions Day at the Cheltenham Festival can be found below:
- 13:30 The Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle
- 14:10 The Sporting Life Arkle Challenge Trophy Steeple Chase
- 14:50 The Ultima Handicap Steeple Chase
- 15:30 The Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy
- 16:10 The Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle
- 16:50 The Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle
- 17:30 The National Hunt Steeple Chase Challenge Cup
Don't forget you can also have a go at entering the Champion Tipster Competition where there's £200 in Free Bets to be won.
Here we go…
13:30 – Supreme Novices' Hurdle
My fancy for this race is Il Etait Temps. He has won twice this season, being a runner-up on his other run to Facile Vega. He didn't jump great that day and when he did win his Grade 1 last time around he jumped like a proper two-miler. He was low and quick at his hurdles, and as expected, he is much better when he's got a good pace to aim at, as he doesn't get keen and his high cruising speed brings him into the race.
Full race preview:
14:10 – Arkle Chase
For me, this will be a real test of jumping, and for that reason, I'm going for Jonbon. His best asset is his jumping, and he's looked a natural throughout this season. He seems to jump better when there's pace injected into the race, so the fact that Dysart Dynamo is in the race should tee it up perfectly for him.
Full race preview:
14:50 – Ultima Handicap Chase
I'll kick it off with my main fancy for this with Corach Rambler, who won this race for me last year. This race is normally suited to those close to the pace, so the fact he came from last place to win it last year shows how well-handicapped he was. 6lbs higher today, but based on that run last year he looks certain to go close and is the one to beat.
The second horse I'll be giving a chance to is Nassalam, trained by Gary Moore. He's always been plugging on over 2m 4f or similar distances. Was entered in the 3m 2f race in December, but had travel issues, so this race appears to have always been the target.
Full race preview:
15:30 – Champion Hurdle
This race isn't a betting race in my view, for those who like to play in the w/o favourite market, it is probably better suited for you, but still, I can't see any value in that either. This race is all about the beast that is Constitution Hill.
Full race preview:
16:10 – Mares' Hurdle
Marie's Rock is the real deal in my eyes. I was always against her in recent times as she was known to be quite keen through her races, and that really put me off, but she has matured a lot and has learned to settle. She handles soft ground, as we all saw when she battered the Grade 2 contest at Cheltenham on New Year's Day, winning by 6L and winning it under hands and heels. That form isn't fantastic by any means, but I think she's hit new heights of form and will be tough to beat if repeating anywhere near that level.
Full race preview:
16:50 – Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle
‘ll be having a go on the Charles Byrnes' horse, Byker. This horse finished that race with an absolute rattle, staying on all the way to the line after not jumping the last cleanly. He was beaten by 1.75L to Sir Allen but was giving that horse 7lbs as he was carrying a penalty that day. The winner is now 15 lbs worse off at the weights with Byker as Philip Byrnes takes the ride and claims 5 lbs.
Full race preview:
17:30 – National Hunt Chase
My fancy for this race is Minella Crooner, who has to prove that he stays this far, which is the case for most of the horses in this race, but from what I've seen he looks in need of a trip like this.

I’m going tomorrow rizzell so would appreciate an early-ish posting if you can bud.
Won’t have time to look at the form after today.
I see Cheltenham same as Saturday racing, great watch but usually a washout on bets, except we have 4 washouts on the bounce at Cheltenham.
What I’ve done previously is collate all the tips from the Cheltenham daily tipster competition and tips on the racing thread on the site, there will be plenty by tomorrow and formulate a placepot out of them which is a cheaper option than having a bet or 2 in each race.
If you bet on all 28 races, with usually so many odds on shots which are no use unless you are a big hitter, you need a couple of biggies to break even over the piece, 2 or 3 wins in the handicaps should do as long as you keep our discipline and use a fixed budget for each race ?.
Anyway enough waffle, let’s have tomorrow’s 7 winners please rizzell ??
Get the Busstop defeatist Saturday head off Elvis! ?
Nothing like anyway , tough and ONLY time I do a place pot but for sure.
The weather is diabolical here in North Wales right now, pissing buckets with snow promised overnight so hope it doesn’t spread to the midlands or it will be like the Wednesday last year.
And with rain expected all week I can’t see bravemansgame being involved again here but that’s Friday, let’s get Tuesday out of the way first
Light showers today with strong wind but the sun did come out and a dry day tomorrow so going should remain soft maybe good/soft tomorrow cheltenham welcomes you all have a great week
I just don’t understand trainers sometimes.
Amirite off a rating of 142 gets taken out of the Kim Muir and put into the BANC. Ridiculous decision.
A race he has absolutely no chance of even placing in.
Surely HDB could have gotten him an amateur jockey to run in the KM.
They we’re talking about this on Sky Racing n something I wouldn’t have knew or really understood but certainly don’t understand it now?
Is it still possible to wait till Monday to declare what race a horse will be in on Tuesday or similar?

Posted Canadian on other thread but they’re really just for the record in case you nail it!
Taken Facile De Vega with Skybet £20 offer at 5/2 but as I put on yesterday’s thread my only other main single is Tekao in 4.50.
Surprised no one really likes this as I see a lot laying it or more so taking it on.
Tekao…4.50/**** got 4/1 (still 11/4 available.)
3rd to a couple of the market leaders for ‘Triumph Hurdle’ on Friday on his last run and could’ve been in Fridays race I think, I’m no jumps expert with that stuff etc (the crowd gasps!) but to me it looks like Mullins has put this in because it’s a race he’s never won and wants to address. Not winning it could matter nothing to Mullins and maybe it’s just that he thinks it’s not good enough for Fridays race but I doubt that and even with his mark against the others I think he’s one to beat!
GL all ?

Brilliant ride by the jockey.
Marine Nationale wins comfortably
Great start to the festival, my skybet £20 back in your horse loses bet.?
Jumped beautifully all the way round.????
Very impressive from El Fabiolo
Quick question. On my account sky bet offer is only £2? So £4 for e/w and they refund £2 if you lose.
I saw someone mention £20. I know it was this last year. Is it higher for different accounts?
Monbeg genius 2.50
What a race and fair play to connections of Corach Rambler.
So close for Fastorslow and you have to feel for him a bit. 2 2nds in 2 years and only just beaten in both races
Get up the Rambler.
CH is just a machine
Great horse and the fact Bet365 superboosted him to EVS was crazy! Even got my mum to back it ?
So did William Hill but £10 max Skybet by 5l or more 6/5 so £27.50 staked returned £66.50
NOT something I’d usually do but c’mon now? ?
risk Belle 4.50 ew well done all winners today
Absolutely delighted for Honeysuckle. But sick for Love Envoi . I backed her in a few bets, She ran a great race .She needed more rain ,The softer the going the better for her .
Hi all, regular reader here for past 3 years now don’t post very often. Today I done a 5 fold acca on hills had a £5 free bet for the races today.
£5 2.50 e/w 5 fold @ 242.86/1 return £1214.31
Honeysuckle win. WON
Constitution hill win. WON
Marine National win. WON
El Fabiolo win. WON
Byker. win. Placed 2nd
However all I received was £20.23 does this seem correct? Seems a bit low return to me considering i was waiting on 1 horse which placed 2nd.
Yep, sounds about right as you only get the place return on all the horses because one got beaten
Well done the winners today! Few crackers and a great days racing.
Decent day myself but Tekao was nowhere and i haven’t seen last 2 races (I will) but boy in work ,skiving twat was watching them said I was very luck with Mullins winning the last?
No matter!
