Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the bonus midweek Premier League card, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.
⚽️ Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur
🏴 Premier League
⏰ Tuesday 2 December, 20:15
In-form Newcastle United welcomes out-of-form Spurs to St James’ Park in the Premier League this evening in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Eddie Howe’s hosts have scored 17 goals across their opening 13 Premier League matches this season, with 10 (59%) of them coming across their six fixtures at their St James’ base.
After failing to score in three of their opening five Premier League contests this term, The Magpies have found the back of the net in each of their next eight – scoring on multiple occasions in each of their previous three on home soil – and will be confident of breaching a Spurs backline that has kept a solitary shutout across their last nine Premier League clashes, shipping eight goals in their previous three.
Thomas Frank’s visitors have scored 21 goals across their opening 13 Premier League encounters this campaign, with 13 (62%) of them coming on their travels.
The Lilywhites have found the back of the net in all six of their Premier League tussles on their travels this season – scoring 2+ goals in five (83%) of them – and will look to continue their excellent goal-scoring record away from home against a Newcastle defence that has kept just one clean sheet across their last eight Premier League contests, and none in their previous six.
Bet of the Day
After seeing just six goals scored across their opening five Premier League fixtures this season, Newcastle’s next eight have averaged 3.38 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals paying out in seven (88%) of them.
Spurs’ last 10 Premier League encounters have averaged 3.10 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in eight (80%) of them – including in each of their previous five away from home (3-0, 2-2, 2-1, 3-0 & 1-4) – whilst seven of the past nine have produced goals at both ends.
What’s more, this fixture generally produces goals, with the last 18 Premier League meetings at St James’ Park averaging a whopping 3.89 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score landing in 16 (89%) of them, whilst 16 (89%) have also gone Over 2.5 Goals – and I’m hoping that trend continues this evening.
