Following a disappointing lack of goals at Brighton on Friday, Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the Italian Serie A, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.
⚽️ Lazio vs Atalanta
🇮🇹 Serie A
⏰ Saturday 28 December, 19:45
Serie A leaders Atalanta will look to claim their 12th consecutive victory as they travel to the Olimpico to take on fourth-placed Lazio in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Marco Baroni’s hosts are the third-highest scorers in Serie A, slamming in 32 goals across their opening 17 contests, with 17 (53%) of them coming on their travels.
Only defensively strong Juventus and leaders Inter have prevented Lazio from scoring in the Italian top flight, with The Biancocelesti striking on multiple occasions in 10 (59%) of their contests – including in 7/8 (88%) of them on home soil – and will look to trouble an Atalanta defence that’s kept six clean sheets in Serie A this season, with four (67%) of them coming against sides positioned in 14th and below.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s hosts are the joint highest scorers in the Italian top flight, slamming in 42 goals across their opening 17 matches, with 17 (40%) of them coming on their travels.
La Dea have only failed to score away at reigning champions Inter back at the end of August, striking on multiple occasions in 13 (76%) of them – including in 10 of their last 11 – and will be confident of adding to their goal-tally against a Lazio defence that’s kept just four clean sheets in Serie A this season.
Bet of the Day
Lazio’s opening 17 fixtures in Serie A this season have averaged 3.29 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in a league-high 14 (82%) of them.
What’s more, Lazio’s opening 12 contests in all competitions at the Olimpico this campaign have averaged 3.67 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals landing in 11 (92%) of them, including in 8/8 (100%) in Serie A.
Atalanta’s opening 14 Serie A fixtures this campaign have averaged a joint league-high 3.59 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in 12 (71%) of them, including in 5/6 (83%) against the top nine.
What’s more, the two meetings between the pair last season produced nine goals, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out on each occasion – including a five-goal thriller in the Italian capital – and I’m happy to have a play on another high-scorer.
- Over 2.5 Goals
- Pays 17/20 (Unibet)
