Looking to return to winning ways after falling a Cagliari goal short on Monday, Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the German Bundesliga, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.
⚽️ Hamburg vs Bayer Leverkusen
🇩🇪 Bundesliga
⏰ Tuesday 12 January, 19:30
Two clubs at opposite ends of the Bundesliga table meet at Volksparkstadion on Tuesday night as newly-promoted Hamburg entertain fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Merlin Polzen’s hosts have 17 goals across their opening 16 matches back in the German top-flight, with 13 (76%) of them coming in front of their supporters.
Die Rothosen have made the net bulge in all bar one of their previous seven Bundesliga fixtures on home soil – scoring on multiple occasions in four (57%) of them – and will look to trouble a Bayer backline that has yet to keep a clean sheet on their Bundesliga travels this campaign, shipping 14 goals.
Kasper Hjulmund’s visitors are the second-highest scorers in the Bundesliga this term, firing in 34 goals across their opening 16 matches, with 15 (44%) of them coming across their seven road trips.
Die Werkself have failed to net just twice in the Bundesliga this season – notching on multiple occasions in 10 (63%) of them – and will be confident of breaching an HSV defence that has failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their past 10 Bundesliga outings.

Bet of the Day
After seeing just two goals scored across their opening two matches since their long-awaited promotion back to the Bundesliga, Hamburg’s next 14 contests have averaged 3.00 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in nine (64%) of them – including in four of their last five (2-1, 3-2, 1-4, 1-1 & 1-2) – whilst each of their last five and seven of their past eight have produced goals at both ends.
Bayer Leverkusen’s opening 16 Bundesliga fixtures have averaged 3.63 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in 11 (69%) of them – including in 6/7 (86%) of their away matches (3-3, 2-1, 4-3, 0-3, 3-1, 0-2 & 3-1) – whilst 10 (63%) have seen goals at both ends.
Given Hamburg’s goal-scoring form at home and Bayer Leverkusen’s knack of finding the back of the net – as well as both vulnerabilities at the back – I’m expecting an entertaining encounter in Hamburg on Tuesday night.
