Two clubs at opposite ends of the J1 League table meet at the Lemon Gas Stadium Hiratsuka tomorrow morning as 17th-placed Shonan Bellmare plays host to surprise league leaders Machida Zelvia in a fixture that I’m keen to get the visitors on side.
Shonan Bellmare claimed just their second league victory of the season last time out, as they came from a goal down to win 2-1 against fellow strugglers Sagan Tosu – a result that sees them climb out of the relegation zone by one point. Satoshi Yamaguchi’s men have now taken 10 points across their opening 12 J1 League contests (W2-D4-L6), with seven (70%) of those points coming against the three sides directly below them in the table (W2-D1-L0), with the Hiratsuka-based club losing all four against the top-six by an 8-1 aggregate score.
Machida Zelvia secured promotion to the J1 League for the first time this season, as they clinched the J2 League title last term, and things have continued to go well for them. After 12 rounds of matches, Go Kuroda’s visitors currently sit top of the league after taking 25 points (W8-D1-L3) – two more than last season's champions, Vissel Kobe – with 15 of those points coming across their six away matches (W5-D0-L1).

Zelvia have claimed some impressive victories over the likes of Kashima Antlers (3rd) and Tokyo (4th), but they have been consistent against the struggling sides, winning all five matches against teams currently positioned in 14th and below.
The reigning J2 League champions have scored 11 goals across those five matches – nothing on multiple occasions in four (80%) of them -, and I’m backing them to be too strong for a Shonan Bellmare side that remains the only side in the division yet to record a clean sheet in the Japanese top flight this season, conceding a league-high 24 goals.
