After returning to winning ways in the Eredivisie on Saturday, Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to La Liga, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.
⚽️ RCD Mallorca vs RCD Espanyol
🇪🇸 La Liga
⏰ Sunday 15 March, 13:00
Two sides in poor form in La Liga meet at Son Moix on Sunday afternoon as relegation-threatened Mallorca host seventh-placed Espanyol in a fixture that appeals to me for goals at both ends.
Mallorca, who are now managed by ex-Bayern Munich and Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis, have scored 31 goals across their opening 27 La Liga clashes this season, with 19 (61%) of them coming in front of their supporters.
The Pirates have made the net bulge in 11 of their past 12 La Liga encounters on home soil – scoring 2+ goals in four of their last seven – and will look to continue their goal-scoring record at home against an Espanyol defence that is without a clean sheet in each of their past 11 La Liga encounters, shipping multiple goals in eight of their previous 10.
Manolo Gonzalez’s visitors have scored 34 goals across their opening 27 La Liga clashes this campaign, with 17 (50%) of them coming on their travels.
The Periquitos have found the back of the net in each of their previous 10 La Liga encounters on their travels – scoring on multiple occasions in three of their last four and four of their past six – and will be confident of breaching a Mallorca backline that has kept just three clean sheets in La Liga this season.

Bet of the Day
Mallorca’s opening 13 La Liga fixtures in front of their supporters have averaged 2.77 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score landing in six of their last seven and nine of their past 12 (1-1, 1-1, 1-0, 1-1, 1-0, 2-2, 3-1, 1-2, 3-2, 4-1, 1-2 & 0-1).
Espanyol’s previous 11 matches in the Spanish top flight have averaged an eye-catching 3.45 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score landing in nine (82%) of them, including in each of their last six on their travels (2-1, 1-1, 2-3, 1-4, 2-4 & 2-2).
What’s more, the last five meetings between the pair have produced 16 goals, with Both Teams to Score landing on each occasion – including a five-goal thriller in the reverse fixture in Catalonia in September – and I’m backing that trend to continue in the Balearics on Sunday.
