⚽️ Qarabag vs Newcastle United

🇪🇺 Champions League

⏰ Wednesday 18 February, 17:45

Newcastle United make the long trip to Baku to take on this season’s surprise package, Qarabag, in the first leg of their Champions League playoff tie in what promises to be an entertaining encounter.

Gurban Gurbanov’s hosts have scored 13 goals across their opening eight league phase matches, with nine (69%) of them coming in front of their supporters.

The Horsemen have notched 2+ goals in all four of their home matches in the league phase this campaign – including against the likes of Chelsea and Eintracht Frankfurt – and will look to trouble a Newcastle backline that has kept just one clean sheet across their last 15 away matches in all competitions.

Eddie Howe’s visitors have scored 17 goals across their opening eight league phase matches this season, with eight (47%) of them coming on their travels.

The Magpies have found the back of the net in all eight of their league phase fixtures this season – scoring 2+ goals in five (63%) of them – and will be confident of breaching a Qarabag backline that has shipped multiple goals in 7/8 (88%) of their league phase contests this campaign.

Bet of the Day

Newcastle travel to Baku as short-priced favourites, but given how poor they’ve been on their travels this season, coupled with Qarabag’s goal-scoring record at home in this competition, I like the look of goals at both ends.

Qarabag’s opening eight league phase matches this campaign have averaged a whopping 4.25 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score landing in five (63%) of them, including in each of their last three on home soil (2-2, 2-4 & 3-2).

Both Teams to Score has also landed in 12 of Newcastle’s previous 15 away matches in all competitions, including in each of their last three in this competition (1-2, 2-2 & 1-1).
