Happy New Year everyone! After recording a third consecutive winner at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me drop down a division to the Championship, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.
⚽️ Sheffield United vs Leicester City
🏴 Championship
⏰ Thursday 1 January, 17:30
Two clubs separated by only five points in the Championship table meet at Bramall Lane in the teatime slot on Thursday as resurgent Sheffield United host 12th-placed Leicester City in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Chris Wilder’s hosts have scored 33 goals across their opening 24 matches in the Championship this term, with 15 (45%) of them coming in front of their supporters.
After failing to score in six of their opening nine Championship fixtures this season, the Blades have found the back of the net in 13 of their next 15 – scoring 2+ goals in seven of their past nine – and will be confident of continue their good form in front of goal against a Foxes defence that has failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 18 Championship encounters, shipping multiple goals in five of their previous eight.
Marti Cifuentes’s visitors have scored 34 goals across their opening 24 matches back in the Championship, with 17 (50%) of them coming on their travels.
The Foxes have failed to score in just four of their Championship fixtures this season – notching on multiple occasions in seven of their past 10 – and will look to trouble a Blades backline that has shipped 11 goals across their last seven matches.

Bet of the Day
Sheffield United’s matches in the last couple of months have gone goal-crazy, with their previous 14 Championship encounters averaging an eye-catching 3.57 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in 11 (79%) of them.
Leicester’s matches have also went goal-crazy in the last few weeks, with their previous 10 averaging 3.70 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals landing in all 10 (2-1, 2-1, 0-3, 2-3, 3-1, 2-2, 3-1, 1-4, 1-2 & 2-1).
These two clubs also played out a five-goal thriller in the reverse fixture at the end of November at the King Power, and I’m hoping we see a similarly high-scoring encounter in the Steel City on Thursday night.
- Over 2.5 Goals
