FA Cup Top Tips

The third round of the FA Cup is set to take place this weekend, and although the competition isn't as big as it once was, this is still a weekend that many football fans up and down the country look forward to each season.

As ever, all everyone wants to see this weekend is a shock or two to keep the ‘magic of the cup' alive, but in a season where Grimsby Town have already defeated Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, could that stardust have already been used up?

Check out our FA Cup third round tips below.

FA Cup third round tips: Four of the best

Preston to beat Wigan – 9/10

Preston have been one of the surprise packages in the Championship so far this season. Tipped to go down before a ball was kicked, the Lilywhites find themselves inside the top six and within touching distance of Middlesbrough in second.

To be priced at 9/10 to beat a team that is sitting in the bottom half of League One represents brilliant value, regardless of whether Paul Heckingbottom selects his strongest available XI or gives some first-team players a rest.

Everton to beat Sunderland – 23/20

Everton have been up and down at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but they are facing Sunderland at the best possible time. The Black Cats have gone five matches without a win in all competitions, and although a few of their AFCON players have now returned, none are expected to be in a position to play this weekend.

David Moyes will be desperate to do for Everton what he did for West Ham and end the Toffees' long trophy drought. There are no excuses for him not to go strong here, and if he does, then the hosts should come out on top.

Fulham to beat Middlesbrough – 4/7

Marco Silva has made it clear in recent years that he would love to win Fulham the club's first-ever major trophy. However, with the former Everton and Hull City manager set to potentially leave the club in the summer, this season's FA Cup could be his final chance to do it.

Silva's attitude is important here, as it means he is almost certainly going to play his strongest possible starting XI. The good news for him in that regard is that Fulham are currently unbeaten in six Premier League matches, while Middlesbrough have won just one of their last five in the Championship.

Aston Villa to beat Tottenham – 8/5

Our final FA Cup third round tip is for Aston Villa to beat Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Tottenham's home form this season has been ugly, winning just two of their ten Premier League matches on home soil.

Things are starting to turn very sour for Thomas Frank in North London, and the last thing he needs is an Aston Villa side that has already beaten his side 2-1 at this stadium this season turning up.
