worldcuptrophy

I'VE put up my top scorer tips and touched on my choice as winner and runners-up.

There are loads of antepost betting opportunities and of course one punters will focus on is group betting.

For many teams it will be vital to finish top to avoid a tougher last-16 draw. It won't always work out that way though.

One of the first tips I posted was a treble on Brazil, Argentina and France to win their groups. That still pays a best £26.80 at Betfred to a tenner even though many firms have cut France after their 8-0 defeat of Jamaica.

Nothing's happened to change my mind about that treble, not even Franck Ribery's injury, as I believe the French have enough attacking players such as Yohan Cabaye, Paul Pogba, Olivier Giroud and Karim Benzema to score the goals to take them through.

So that's the winners of A, E and F sorted – so what about the other five sections?

Group G and H are relatively straightforward and I see Germany finishing ahead of Portugal and Belgium taking top spot in front of AN Other! I'll come to that later.

Groups B, C and D are the toughest to call. Spain should finish ahead of Holland or Chile to qualify from Group B and we'll get a much better idea after Friday's Spain-Holland opener.

Group C is a minefield because you could make a case for all four teams. If forced to make a call I'd go for Colombia, even without Radamel Falcao, ahead of Ivory Coast but Japan and Greece won't give anyone an easy game.

And so we come to England's Group D – the Group of Death. Italy, Uruguay and England are all ranked in the world's top 10 so that shows how tough it is.

Despite Italy's poor form in friendlies I take them to top the section ahead of Uruguay or England. It could be a winner takes all when those two meet and could be decided by the fitness level of Luis Suarez.

So to sum up my Group winners are Brazil, Spain, Colombia, Italy, France, Argentina, Germany and Belgium – but I certainly wouldn't consider doing an eightfold at 62-1 with Paddy Power.

I'm happy with the Brazil, Argentina and France treble and may add Germany and Belgium for a fivefold that returns about 6-1.

Choosing runners-up in most groups is tougher. Group A looks a dogfight between Mexico, Croatia and Cameroon and it's Holland or Chile in Group B behind Spain. Group C is almost impossible to call but I'll try Ivory Coast and with apologies to England fans I'll be on Uruguay to nick second spot in Group D.

Ecuador played well against England last week and will fight for second with Switzerland in Group E and in Group F Bosnia should win their final two matches against Iran and Australia. Portugal will take second spot in Group G if Germany win it and again it's up for grabs in Group H but I'll settle for Russia.

Any word on fantasy football prizes? Was hoping for something before worldcup.have emailed admin a few times and had no responce.

    • pharlap 10 years ago

I also believe England won’t get out of the group stage. Italy will nick one of the first two places as usual and I can see Uruguay being stronger than England.

  2. Wazza 10 years ago

Is that fivefold meant to be 62/1 or isit 6.2/1 ?

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

      Wazza. it’s 62-1.

Quite canny tips Mister F. My extra tip is for Group B to be the highest scoring because of Australia…lets hope sanchez, vidal, vargas, costa, torres, Robben, Van Persie agrees to make it a 5/1 win.

  4. Shaun tanner 10 years ago

Spot on Mr F & Oor man regarding Australia and group B. I’m just trying to find a Spainish top team scorer. I like like the look of Pedro and Torres as much as he’s taunted always delivers on the big stage for Spain. Is he as good as he once was- possibly not but he’s still got the know how for me.

  5. Ramey 10 years ago

Think bosnia will win group. Sheer determination and dzeko to have a storming 3 games and maybe topscorer in world cup. Everything they do ends up going to dzeko and hes looking fitter than ever

  6. Greg Browning 10 years ago

Group betting will be where the majority of my money will be going on! To qualify, reverse forecasts and to finish bottom!

  7. robbie d 10 years ago

I’ve taken a six fold of group winners: Brazil, Argentina, France, Belgium, Colombia, Germany. Took it last week so don’t know exact odds, but over 10/1

  8. Johnny J 10 years ago

Fancy Italy just like yourself Mr f think they will get the better of uruguay after drawing the England game and beat Costa rica

Hope England can get 2nd spot tho

  9. Damo 10 years ago

Just placed my first wc bet and that is Chile and Bosnia to qualify at 9/4.

bewolf, there’s talk of Immobile playing instead of Balotelli but we’ll say.

  12. AL 10 years ago

After seeing these tips I’ve decided to take a selection from each group & go for an 8-fold

    Group A – BRAZIL to WIN Group @ 1/4
    Group B – AUSTRALIA to finish BOTTOM @ 1/4
    Group C – GREECE NOT to Qualify @ 4/11
Group D – COSTA RICA to finish BOTTOM @ 2/9
    Group E – FRANCE TO Qualify @ 1/5
    Group F – ARGENTINA to WIN Group @ 2/9
    Group G – USA NOT to Qualify @ 2/9
    Group H – BELGIUM TO Qualify @ 1/5

All look good on paper & pays just over 9/2 with coral

  13. Oor man in Napoli 10 years ago

bewolf, that COULD BE the lineup, but Italy see England not as a 4231 but as a 442.

    • Oor man in Napoli 10 years ago

it would seem to be a decent formation , but we dont know bewolf…England we know, Italy is an unknown for everyone as they have no real style or formation they follow.

  27. craigyboy 10 years ago

I personally think Portugal NOT to qualify is a good bet. I think their too dependant on Ronaldo…Will post all my pre tournament bets tomorrow I need sleep and I’ve had loads. Its that close I can almost sense it. WC14 is almost upon us and I can’t wait!

  28. Sean Ireland 10 years ago

Wouldnt argue with anything youve said Mr F except i just slightly prefer the chances of England over Uruguay, did my pre tourney bets a couple of weeks back and had posted them before, bit speculative but each with a decent chance i think.

Thanks for your input MrF, will help with my final decisions

  33. Oor man in Napoli 10 years ago

I fancy they could go 4141 bewolf. But we dont know. Italy, if they can get past the group, will change their formation to suit as the tournament goes on. to suit other players, to suit the heat, to suit tiredness- such a flexible side they have this year.

  34. bewolf 10 years ago

Actually it’s a 4141.candreva and Marchisio in turn will help Balotelli attack the lines

  35. bewolf 10 years ago

They will change their formation to suit as the match goes on.immobile insigne cassano ready to roll… just in case

  36. bewolf 10 years ago

    Goodnight napoli

  37. Ad 10 years ago

Am I the only person who thinks England and Uruguay will qualify?! I think we all finish level on points but out score the Italians against CoSta rica

  38. Jman 10 years ago

Not sure how much consideration folk are giving the conditions with some of these but they will be absolutely massive. I think you can add about 10% to the normal standard of the South American teams and probably minus a similar % off many of the european teams.

I would have fancied Uruguay anyway, but with the conditions in their favour, especially the afternoon game with England, it will be a case of who qualifies alongside them, Italy or England. I fancy Italy, purely as they will keep the ball a bit better. Both England and Italy didn’t look too clever in their recent friendlies but i really fear for England in those conditions with many of the players sporting typical ‘brits abroad’ red faces to match their shirts in the Miami heat last week, really didn’t cope well.

I’m going to jump on Uruguay at 7/4 best price just now against England before it falls any further.

  39. Craig Alves 10 years ago

Suarez will hopefully be back to full fitness too Jman, big price also but ive already got £65+ on so far so taking it game by game after England bets are placed

  40. Rick 10 years ago

Don’t really see the big deal
Is with Uruguay takin suarez out.

  41. Chris Guy 10 years ago

Paul I like the look of your bet Brazil, Argentina and France to win their groups. What about making it a 4 fold by adding Australia to finish bottom of their group. For £100 stake this would return £336.10 as opposed to £268. No idea why this it’s not allowing me to back this online as Australia is not related to any other of the group betting. Do you think it would be worthwhile just writing them out on a betting slip?

  42. seannyboy 10 years ago

Eightfold with looking for value in next best team in group apart from favourite to qualify. Willhills have a to qualify from group market…

    A – Croatia
    B – Holland
    C – Japan
    D – England ( wishful thinking )
    E – SWISS
    F – Bosnia
    G – Portugal
    H – South Korea

    Pays about 112/1.

England get out of group and I got enough £££’s to jump on the plane :-)

Some good ideas for bets on here, decided upon a top/bottom of group treble bet,
    BRAZIL/CMEROON
    ARGENTINA/IRAN
    SPAIN/AUSTRAILIA

pays over 5/1 and I think you have more insurance than some other bets, eg if a top team slips up and gets a draw or a bottom team does slightly better and gets a draw or win, outcomes will most likely be the same. However if you back to get 9 points or to get 0 points this can be down early. Any thoughts I feel like this is printing money

Heres my updates World Cup Bets after reading what others on here have to offer. Hat tipped to Mr F in particular (and the racing post).

    Dual Forecast Rus/Bel Ger/Por, Arg/Bos DUAL @ 6.7
Group Winners Brazil, Spain, France, Argentina @ 4.644
    Scorer Matchbet NEYMAR v Suarez 1 1.67

Johnboy came down off the mountain for the NEYMAR bet waxing less than lyrical about how NEYMAR should be 2/7 against Suarez. 4/6 is real value if he is correct.

    Good luck everyone.

  57. AL 10 years ago

An interesting bet I seen tipped on sportinglife is

CHILE V AUSTRALIA – Highest scoring group game @ 33/1

Must win game for Chile with the remaining games being Spain & Holland. Chile are an “Energetic & creative” side with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Arturo Vidal, Jorge Valdivia, Eduardo Vargas & Felipe Gutierrez who all carry a goal threat & likey to start if fit(Vidal being a doubt)

Worth a few quid at that odds!

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

AL, take into the Aussies probably won’t score so it won’t be a 4-3 or 3-3 or anything like that.

    • AL 10 years ago

Couldn’t get the bet placed as it’s not a market skybet are taking bets on, thought it was with them as they were advertised all over the page I’d read it on, skybet themselves said it was misleading when I spoke to them on chat to see if they were taking bets on it.

Fancy Chile to win by a few and would have been worth a couple of quid at that odds

  58. SMTrebles 10 years ago

Betfred are offering BELGIUM to win their group at EVENS limited availability.

  59. Chris Guy 10 years ago

Greg I’m going for Holland. Many fancy Chile but according to how I think the tournament will pan out that means Chile will have to knock out Brazil and I can’t see that happening.

  60. playonref 10 years ago

can`t see uruguay getting out of group, very poor record in form in trying to qualify, potent attack but they need to be with the amount of goals they leak

  61. Sean Ireland 10 years ago

Ill say now why i feel England will qualify from the group of Death, the way i see it Italy,Uruguay and England will all approach their games with each other looking to avoid defeat and playing very cagey take no chances football and we could see these games all ending in a draw,we all know how Italy have been playing recently with 6 draws in their last 7 games and Uruguay have hardly been setting the world alight recently, anyone who watched their game with ‘Norn Iron’ will know what i mean added to the fact that their star man Suarez the Scouse has been injured recently and should he be back will surely be a little rusty for a game or 2.Given that these games have a good chance of ending in draws this leaves the performances against Costa Rica as crucial in deciding who goes through, this is where England have the upper hand as they face Costa Rica in thier final game and knowing exactly what they need to win by should it be 2 or maybe 3 goals i can see them achieving it and going through on goal difference should Italy and Uruguay draw their last game, the Italy v Uruguay final game could be crucial in deciding who goes through along with England. Makes sense to me to look at the final games to see who has the advantage. Apologies to any that have backed England to fail in the group stage,i just cant see it thats why i backed them to go through ;)

  62. SMTrebles 10 years ago

Who fancies Australia to finish bottom and Spain to finish top?

    Yeah, me too!

On Betfair you can back a quadcast for Group B as follows-

    Spain/Holland/Chile/Australia – 3.5 – £10 = £35
    Spain/Chile/Holland/Australia – 5.0 – £10 = £50

So IF Spain finish top and Australia finish bottom you would be a minimum £15 in profit. Obviously depending on the size of your stake.

    Also just so you know

    Holland/Spain/Chile/Australia is 5.5
    Chile/Spain/Holland/Australia is 11.0

    2. ENGLAND 0.4 – 3.1
    3. CROATIA 0.4 – 1.8
    4. BELGIUM 0.4 – 1.8
    5. HOLLAND 0.5 – 3.4
    6. GHANA 0.5 – 3
    7. RUSSIA 0.5 – 2
    GOAL AT – FOR AVERAGE:

YOU CAN SEE THAT HOLLAND AND ENGLAND ARE AND TO THE 2 GROUPS. I ALREADY BET HOLLAND TO BE IN THE FINAL AND THE 2 OF THEM IN SEMIFINALS.
