Wednesday’s Football Tips: Sanfrecce Hiroshima chasing a double in Japan

It's slim pickings for punters today with the international football grinding to a halt but there are some club games to fill the void.

The Emperor's Cup has reached the quarter-final stage in Japan and Sanfrecce Hiroshima host Gamba Osaka as they bid to keep their dreams of a double alive.

Sanfrecce had been on track for the treble but they bowed out of the J-League Cup on penalties after drawing 2-2 on aggregate with Nagoya Grampus.

They've still been the best and most consistent side in Japan this season though and top the J League table on goal difference after seven successive wins.

Gamba Osaka sit fifth but if they win their game in hand they will be just four points behind the leaders so this has the potential to be a tight cup tie.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima vs Gamba Osaka top betting tips

With Sanfrecce Hiroshima in such good league form, Betfred make them red-hot 4/7 favourites for a win. But their home J-League clash with Gamba Osaka ended in a 1-1 draw back in March so this could be a close one.

The half-time draw looks a good option at 6/5 while backing most goals to come in the second half also appeals at 11/10. Both those bets landed in that league stalemate earlier this season.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima have conceded in four of their last seven at home so backing goals at both ends could pay off at 10/11 too.

Hume City vs South Melbourne top tips

It's quarter-final time in the Australian Cup too and four teams from the second tier have reached the last eight.

Two of them face off today as Hume City host South Melbourne and it's a tough one to call with Betfred pricing both teams at 6/4.

South Melbourne topped the NPL Victoria table this season but head into this game on something of a downer after losing the Grand Final to Oakleigh Cannons on Saturday. Hume City finished 10 points behind South Melbourne in fifth so the away win looks worth a punt here at 6/4.

This should be another close game and the half-time draw appeals once more at 6/5.

SC Internacional vs Fortaleza EC top betting tips

There's a game in Brazil's top flight to finish off today's action, with Fortaleza's trip to Internacional kicking off at 11pm.

Fortaleza have the chance to go top with a win as they currently sit just two points behind leaders Botafogo with a game in hand.

Internacional sit down in 10th place so I'm surprised to see them as Betfred's 19/20 favourites with the title chasers as big as 11/4.

Those odds are probably influenced by Internacional's run of four games without defeat at home but Fortaleza did beat them 1-0 on their last visit so could be worth a punt at such a big price.

Fortaleza's last four games have all hit double figures for corners so over 10.5 flag kicks could be worth a punt here at evens.
