TOP spot in Group A is the prize at stake in Samara this afternoon after Russia made a mockery of their status as the lowest-ranked team in the finals.
The hosts blitzed Saudi Arabia 5-0 and Egypt 3-1 while Uruguay toiled to unimpressive 1-0 wins over the same opponents to set up the group decider.
With both teams already through to the last 16, the their superior goal difference means the Russians only need a point to finish top. They're set to stick with a full-strength line-up whereas Uruguay boss Oscar Tabarez may rest some key men.
These teams are on a collision course with the top two in Group B in the knockout stage but it's still up in the air what order Spain, Portugal and Iran will finish, so there's no obvious advantage to be had from winning Group A.
And while the Russians have been suspiciously impressive so far, it's a real hike in quality facing rock-solid Uruguay whose defence is up there with the best.
If Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani both start, they can trouble the Russians at the other end. Cavani has been unlucky not to get on the scoresheet so far, particularly against Egypt when he came close several times, and can get off the mark here.
