Premier League handicap betting tips

Ange Postecoglou’s honeymoon period at Tottenham Hotspur has shown no sign of ending but it faces its toughest test this afternoon in the North London Derby against unbeaten Arsenal.

The Aussie supremo lost his first Glasgow Derby whilst Celtic were still adapting to his football philosophy but his Spurs squad have hit the ground running and lived up to Ange’s “we don’t stop” mantra with a sensational added time win over Sheffield United last weekend.

That means both sides go in to the game on 13 points and vying for second place in the table.

The Gunners are favourites to win at 4/6 but what statement it would be if Spurs could shoot down their old rivals on their own turf at 10/3, a tough ask when you consider they’ve won just two of 31 Premier League visits to Arsenal.

Either way it’s sure to be an entertaining affair and it’s no surprise to see Over 2.5 Goals priced up at just 1/2.

One way to tackle this one could be on the cards markets. Spurs have picked up 17 yellows in their first five matches (4-1-3-3-6), whilst Arsenal just eight.

They’re 6/5 to pick up four in what’s likely to be a highly competitive battle. Referee Rob Jones has averaged five cards per game this season and this is his first North London Derby.

A BetBuilder of Over 2.5 Goals & Over 2.5 Spurs Cards pays 23/20.

There won’t be many punters getting on Chelsea at 17/20 today. The Blues have won just once – against Premier League new boys Luton – and failed to score in their last two outings.

Visitors Aston Villa can go toe-to-toe with most teams but might suffer a European hangover after a 3-2 defeat in Poland on Thursday.

They’ve come up short at Newcastle and Liverpool but with 0.5 goals of a start on the Asian Handicap they could be some value at just over even money.

Barry Robson simply can’t afford another defeat for Aberdeen at Pittodrie. The Dons will have taken some encouragement despite defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt but the truth is they’re won just one game all season – a nervy 2-1 win over League One Stirling Albion.

Visitors Ross County have made a good start to the season, their only defeats coming against Celtic and Rangers.

However, Aberdeen at 1/1 looks very tempting and it’s about time they go things back on track.

Motherwell have an abysmal record at Ibrox and against Rangers in general but the travel to Govan in good shape under Stuart Kettlewell.

They’re third in the table, a point ahead of today’s opponents but they’re a massive 12/1 to pick up all three points.

Rangers still have key players out but they coped admirably in midweek with a win over Real Betis. They’re nowhere near top gear but should be good enough to leapfrog the Steelmen with a win.

The Gers have kept three clean sheets in five games so far and boast the best defensive record in the Premiership. A win to nil today pays 10/11.

Value bet of the weekend for me today

    * Sheff Utd to beat Newcastle at 6/1 *. (price gen available with multiple firms)

Sheff Utd have been playing okay and are a little unlucky not to have picked up more points. They’ve had a tough run of fixtures including the likes of Man City and Tottenham but their defeats were all narrow, all by a single goal. Point is they’ve been very competitive so this home game will see them really go for it against a Newcastle side who put a lot into defending in the San Siro v Milan. I thought they looked very average and were very fortunate to escape with a draw. The Magpies could be a bit leggy physically and mentally after that and Bramall Lane should prove a tough venue for them.

Add to this the tragic death of 27 year old Maddy Cusack (star of the Sheff Utd womens team) and it will be an emotionally charged atmosphere, so a win for the blades will be seen as a great tribute to her.

6/1 looks too big for a Sheff Utd win so I’ve had a decent bet on it.

I also couldn’t resist the 14/1 on them winning at HT/FT. (on Betfair) Just a crazy looking price in my opinion so I’ve had some on that as well.

    GL with your bets.

Could be a good shout, Sheffield United played Man City at home which they lost 1-2 but City were holding on towards the end where Sheffield United created plenty of chances and really should have had a point. I’m on Btts but the 6/1 does look big.

Sheffield United are definitely overpriced. They’ll be smarting after last week. Also thought Newcastle were poor in midweek. On another day Milan would have scored 3 or 4 in that first half.

No need to apologise Sheff United would normally be a difficult gig, they didn’t concede 8 against City. Arsenal stuffed me today but Aston villa winning helped.

    Saturday Championship Scotland

Dundee Utd v Queens Park , top of the table United face a team who have been shipping goals including losing 5 at home on Friday to Ayr who themselves havn,t been on form lately..

i meant to post this last night at 17.00 when United were 7/10 to win, now at 8/13, still think it,s a strong bet.

another eyebrow raiser on this United are 6/4 not to conceed a goal, ( only lost 2 goals so far this season )

Average day yesterday with 11/22 winners in the football and a very small profit. A few selections were close so could have been better.

    Well done all winners.

German Bundesliga 2 – Kaiserslautern v Hansa Rostock looks primed for cards

Kaiserslautern have collected 8Y & 2R in 3 away days so far

Rostock have 11Y in 4 home outings & 20Y in total over 6 league games

This season so far Martin Peterson the referee has taken charge of 1 game each in the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and 3 Liga…he has dished out an astonishing 19Y & 3R. He has reffed 1 German cup game also and produced 5Y & a red. So in total over 4 games he has produced 24Y & 4R which doesn’t bode well for 2 teams that are not shy on picking up bookings

Red card in the match 11/4
Red card for both sides 45/1
