Best tennis tips and predictions today
Our first tip sees Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner clash in Shanghai, while Aryna Sabalenka will take on native player Qinwen Zheng in our second prediction.
Jannik Sinner to defeat Novak Djokovic @ 3/6
This tip doesn’t have the most lucrative odds, but in all good consciousness, we can’t back Djokovic to beat Sinner. He has looked really good at the event so far and has historically been the best player ever in Shanghai, but it still doesn’t look as impressive.
The Serbian looked super strong against lesser opposition, but against some of the best, just got by. Sinner has been on fire since touching down in China; it only took a crazy comeback by Carlos Alcaraz for him to miss out on the China Open trophy.
Now in Shanghai, he continues playing well and looks poised to win another trophy. Djokovic can beat him, of course, but we don’t think he will because the matchup simply seems to favour Sinner in recent times.
He’s just become too overwhelming for Djokovic, becoming one of the few players who can actually hit through the Serbian. This happens in most of their matches, and with the conditions allowing for that, it’s likely to happen again, so we’re backing Sinner.
Sabalenka to defeat Zheng @ 2/5
Aryna Sabalenka has historically played some of her best tennis in Wuhan, having won this event twice. She claimed victory in both 2018 and 2019, and while it’s been a while, the event wasn’t held for a couple of years.
She returned this year and immediately made another final, but it won’t be an easy one as she faces the local player Zheng, who narrowly missed out on the final in Beijing last week. This time around, she made it, but she’s facing a player she has struggled against massively.
Sabalenka is not a great matchup for Zheng, and there are a couple of reasons for that. The main issue is the baseline play, where Sabalenka dominates. She’s a far better and cleaner hitter. She’s also much more consistent, which spells bad news for someone like Zheng.
When you factor in Zheng’s occasionally lacklustre serving, it makes her a sitting duck in most rallies. We don’t think that will change anytime soon, so overall, this is a matchup Sabalenka is very likely to win again. She’s been amazing, and as good as Zheng was and could be, it won’t be enough.
