No-one is giving Manchester United a chance in this afternoon’s derby not least the bookies who have them at 9/1 to silence their noisy neighbours.
They’ve won just one of the last five meetings with City and last week’s 2-1 defeat at Fulham exposed some of the cracks that recent results had been papering over. Erik ten Hag’s men had been unbeaten in five prior to the Cottagers’ victory but their only truly convincing win was a 3-0 success over West Ham, in fact only two of United’s 14 wins have been by more than a single goal.
They’ve already lost 3-0 to their city rivals this season and Pep Guardiola’s men
have now scored 3, 2, 1, 6, 4 & 2 goals in the last six Manchester derbies – an average of three per match. They’re 5/6 to hit at least three today.
Ominously for United Erling Haaland warmed up for the derby with a five-goal haul against Luton Town last week. He’s already scored five against the Red Devils and is 4/6 to net today. The big Norwegian is 11/4 to score two or more and 10/1 to repeat his hat-trick in this fixture last season.
Chris Sutton has predicted a 6-1 (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68397901) win for the hosts at the Etihad. It might not be as spectacular as that (50/1 BTW!) but everything points to a comfortable win for the champions.
City to be winning at half-time and full-time appeals at 4/5 as does at least a couple of first half goals coupled with a home win at 13/10.
Motherwell’s stunning win at Ibrox yesterday means it’s over to Celtic today in the battle for the title in Scotland.
The Steelmen handed Phillipe Clement his first home league defeat and gives the Hoops the chance to retake top spot if they can win at Tynecastle this lunchtime.
Standing in their way are a Hearts side that lost 5-0 to Rangers last week before grabbing a point in the Edinburgh Derby in midweek. Prior to that the Jambos were unbeaten in 12 and Steven Naismith will be to embark on another unbeaten run that will secure top spot.
Celtic turned in one of their best performances of the season in a 4-1 win in Gorgie back in October but it looks like they’ll be without captain Callum McGregor and Kyogo Furuhashi through injury today.
Lawrence Shankland scored that day and in Hearts 2-0 win at Celtic Park in December. The Scottish Internationalist is 15/8 to add to his 24 goals already scored this season.
Celtic are just 4/9 to win today whilst Hearts will be popular at 13/2 but goals could be the best play.
With Shankland in fine form Hearts will be a threat in front of goal, whilst Celtic will be all out to take the three points. With that in mind the 21/20 on BTTS and Over 2.5 Goals looks the best bet.

Even with United at full strength this is a game they just aren’t good enough to win. But with half their defence injured and no actual goal scorer fit to play I can’t even see them threatening the city goal.

Irish Cup qf at 1pm, Institute v Linfield:
Institute are priced up at 25/1 at home. That’s way too big for a home cup match. Their NI Championship rivals Ballyclare were the same price away to Glentoran yesterday.
Institute are in good form as they aim for promotion to the NIPL, and they’re really up for this match. I’ll be at the game myself.
You’d expect Linfield to win comfortably but they’ve turned in a few poor performances this season.
So a quid on Institute at 25/1.

Couple of losers today. One unlucky and the other not even close. Been looking at tomorrow and can’t understand how the odds for goals in the famalicao-Boavista game are so appealing.
