Serie A promises plenty of action on Sunday, with the big questions being whether Juventus and AC Milan will get off to a strong start following their disappointing campaigns.
Juventus are away to Frosinone, whilst AC Milan travel to Turin; in the other two matches, we’ll see newly promoted Venezia take on Lecce and the promising clash between Atalanta and Sassuolo.

Frosinone vs. Juventus (5:30am)
Frosinone are back in the top flight and are immediately up against one of the big clubs – Juventus, no less – who have looked quite impressive during their pre-season preparations.
Frosinone kicked off the season with a big win in the early rounds of the Coppa Italia, whilst for Juventus this match will be their first of the season. What was evident before the season was just how well they play defensively, having conceded just one goal in six friendly matches.
Their last four matches against Frosinone have been high-scoring affairs, but here it’s quite possible we’ll see a low-scoring result. In any case, I expect the Old Lady to start strongly.

Venezia vs. Lecce (5:30pm)
Throughout the whole of last season, it looked as though Lecce wouldn’t survive, but their three wins in the last four matches proved enough. They now host newly promoted Venezia, who don’t usually fare very well in the top flight.
Venezia started with a win against Modena in the Coppa Italia, but that match once again highlighted that the team’s defence may not be up to scratch. It’s important, however, that they continue to score goals and, in my view, they’ll win quite a few home games this season.
Lecce started with a defeat in the Coppa Italia and must now focus entirely on their performance in the top flight. Fortunately, they have a positive record against Venezia and have suffered just one defeat in their last 10 head-to-head encounters. I reckon we’ll see a very close match with at least one goal per team.

Atalanta vs. Sassuolo (7:45pm)
Both Atalanta and Sassuolo are starting the season with new managers, with La Dea aiming to get back into the race for the top four, whilst Sassuolo are looking to build on last season’s mid-table finish.
Pre-season, however, suggests that one of these two objectives may prove difficult to achieve. Atalanta looked excellent in pre-season, whilst Sassuolo won just one of their six matches.
In my view, La Dea need to get off to a strong start to the season, and with a Conference League qualifier to contend with, they’ll need to be in the right frame of mind.

Torino vs. AC Milan (7:45pm)
Torino and AC Milan are the latest Serie A sides to have new managers, so this opening fixture will set the tone for what we can expect this season.
The Rossoneri have played four gruelling friendlies, in which they failed to show their best form, apart from their 4-2 victory over Manchester United. In any case, we know they can score goals, but they definitely need to be more clinical in front of goal.
It’s hard not to back goals following the recent encounters between these two sides. Five of the last six matches have featured at least four goals. Torino and AC Milan always give their all when they face each other.
