Newcastle enjoyed a rare away day success with a convincing win at Aston Villa and that have their tails up on Tyneside ahead of today’s clash with Luton.

The Hatters also enjoyed their midweek outing, a 4-0 thrashing of Brighton which lifted them out of the bottom three. Gaffer Rob Edwards said post-match that the best way for them to play their way out of trouble is to attack so we should see an open game at St James’ Park where Over 2.5 Goals is very short at 4/7.

The Magpies should have the upper hand on home soil and combining a Newcastle win with three or more goals scored in the game pays even money.

In today's early kick-off Tottenham will be out to keep pace with the top three with a win at Everton. It's a fixture Spurs enjoy and they can add to the Toffees current woes. Sean Dyche's men have won just one in nine in all competitions and have slipped in to the bottom three.

An away win at 5/4 can get the day off to a winning start.

In the Championship Blackburn can build on a good win over Wrexham with another against QPR today. Rovers turned in one of their best performances of the season in that FA Cup win and if they can hit those heights again should be too strong for third-from-bottom Rangers at 19/20.

In Scotland Celtic face a potentially tricky trip north to Pittodrie. Aberdeen relived Barry Robson of his duties in midweek so there could be a reaction from the players under interim boss Peter Leven.

Celtic huffed and puffed their way past Ross County last week leaving a few fans disgruntled. They’re not happy with what they’ve seen off the field either with the club seemingly unable or unwilling to add the quality to their squad that Brendan Rodgers has stated he needs.

The Dons have won just of the last 34 meetings between the sides but they could unsettle the Hoops and the first goal will be crucial. Celtic are too fragile to be backing at 2/5. Instead look to the Asian Handicap where we can get just over even money on Aberdeen with +1.0/+1.5 – so a win for us if it’s a draw or better for the Dons and money back and half a win if Celtic sneak it by a goal.

Rangers should steamroller Livingston at Ibrox, they usually do. It’s only 4/6 that they score three or more though so you’ll do well to find value in that one.

Dundee v Hearts looks primed for goals. Both sides are in good form and the Jambos managed to hold on to goal-machine Lawrence Shankland. The Scotland striker is 6/4 to score and it’s 17/20 for Over 2.5 goals.

Fourth placed Kilmarnock will be popular at 11/8 away to a struggling Motherwell side. Killie boss Derek McInnes could hand a debut to Kevin Van Veen, the man who scored a whopping 29 goals for ‘Well last season. The Dutchman is 21/10 to make his return to Fir Park with a goal for the Ayrshire men.

Further down the leagues Morton have to be backed at Dunfermline. Dougie Imrie has the ‘Ton flying at the minute and look to big at 17/10 against a Pars side that won one in six and are heading in the wrong direction.

Ayr United could land a blow to Dundee Utd’s promotion hopes at Somerset Park. New boss Scott Brown secured a win in his first game in charge against Queen’s Park to make it three wins in a row for the honest men.

The Terrors have been better away from home this season but have hit a bit of a sticky patch. They’ve won four points from the last nine available, their only win coming courtesy of a late Tony Watt goal at Inverness.

Ayr were 11/2 earlier in the week so much of the value has now gone at 10/3 although 11/10 in the Double Chance market still appeals.

Based purely on form you’d need to show a bit of interest in the 11/5 on Stirling Albion at home to Cove Rangers in League One.

The Binos thumped Kelty Hearts 5-0 last week and they seem to have some of their early-season swagger back. Cove on the other hand have yet to register a league win so far in 2024, and were taken to extra-time by Highland League side Brora Rangers on Tuesday. The fresher legs of Stirling could land the spoils at a very decent price.

Stenhousemuir’s run of 13 consecutive was ended by Peterhead last week but they can bounce back at home to Dumbarton at a generous 4/5 in League Two.

Morning all – first time poster, longtime reader.

    2/1 double for me today

Villa to score 2 + goals (obvious reasoning ) 4/7

Brackley town to score 2 + goals (4 of last 5 at home they’ve scored scored 2 and against 2nd bottom Darlington today I’d expect that trend to continue. 10/11

    Best of luck.

    Iran v Japan

Hossein Kanaani of Iran was booked in the 2 of the 3 group games and subsequently missed the Round of 16 tie through suspension. He should return to the centre of defence today against the small diminutive forwards of Japan and could draw fouls against the big defender.

    H. Kanaani to be carded 4/1

Haven’t put anything up for a while but will stick a few of these up at decent prices which shouldn’t be far off. The Skeid and Ull/Kisa games are listed as friendlies but are actually a mini pre season cup competition these teams are involved in so should be fairly competitive. If some of these games were drawn during the season in a cup setting etc , I don’t think the odds would be as they are.

A bit of time so some reasoning for my tips.
Brighton host Palace in what is usually a hard fought tight game, four of the last 5 games have ended 1-1 and hopefully more of the same.

Newcastle host Luton and I love the fact that the bookies are giving Luton no respect, understandable as Newcastle aren’t bad at home but Luton are now playing some good football and deservedly climbed out of the relegation places after thumping Brighton 4-0 at home. I fully expect Luton to give Newcastle a game here and my opinion is they will get a least a draw. Luton have won away at the likes of Everton so can win here if they are on their game.

Villa were very poor v Newcastle last time out so will be looking to get their title challenge back on track, Sheff Utd can’t defend to save their lives but they are now scoring goals, should be a few here..
      best of luck
