Last season’s Serie A campaign was incredibly exciting, and the new one could be even better, especially if some of the top teams that underperformed last season are in better form.
The two early matches see the champions, Inter, take on newcomers Monza, whilst Udinese face last season’s big surprise, Como. And later on, we can look forward to Napoli’s first match.
Below you’ll find our expert tips and predictions for all Serie A matches on Saturday.
Today’s Serie A betting tips & predictions
Inter Milan vs. Monza (5:30pm)
Inter Milan had a perfect season, winning the title with an 11-point lead, whilst also being the highest-scoring team by a huge margin. Their defence could have been better, and that is where the main transfer changes to the squad have taken place.
Monza have had a rather impressive pre-season, with a few caveats, and look quite capable, at least in the attacking aspect of the game.
They may put up serious resistance against Inter, although I believe the champions will start with a win. However, precisely because of Monza’s form, there is value in betting on both teams to score. But while there is value, there is also a greater risk, so Over 2.5 goals is the significantly safer option.
Inter Milan vs. Monza top betting tip: Over 2.5 goals
Udinese vs. Como (5:30pm)
Both Udinese and Como played some fairly tough matches during pre-season, as they chose to test themselves against top European clubs.
Consequently, we saw matches from both teams that weren’t particularly high-scoring, with their strong defensive play coming to the fore.
Overall, it’s quite difficult to draw any conclusions at such an early stage, but I expect a tough battle and it seems quite possible that we won’t see many goals in this match.
Udinese vs. Como top betting tip: Under 2.5 goals
Genoa vs. Napoli (7:45pm)
Napoli have yet another new manager, with Massimiliano Allegri now facing the difficult task of getting the season off to a strong start with virtually no reinforcements to the squad.
Genoa, on the other hand, have been very active in the transfer market, and the benefits of their signings were evident in their 4-1 cup victory over Ascoli. Nevertheless, one of the biggest challenges in Italian football awaits them, given that they have only one win against Napoli in their last 25 head-to-head encounters.
The Partenopei seem to be in good form, but we mustn’t forget their away struggles from last season. For this reason, I intend to back Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 goals. Eight of the last 10 head-to-head matches have seen goals at both ends, and 9 out of 10 have featured at least three goals.
Genoa vs. Napoli top betting tip: Over 2.5 goals
Parma vs. Cagliari (7:45pm)
Parma and Cagliari were battling for survival right up until the final weeks of last season, so almost anything better than that would be an improvement this season.
That is why, right from the first round, this match is crucial for both teams, as they may once again be direct rivals in the bottom half of the table.
At the moment, I find it difficult to pick a winner between them, as neither have shown anything impressive in their pre-season preparations, so I reckon there’s a very real chance of a stalemate.
