RANGERS are red-hot favourites to lift the League Cup and end their decade-long wait for a major trophy but can't afford to take their eye off the ball in this quarter-final clash with St Mirren.
The Buddies knocked Aberdeen out in the last round and their only defeats in the last 11 games have been two forfeits in games where they were unable to field a team.
An impressive 1-0 at Motherwell on Saturday lifted St Mirren off the foot of the Premiership table so they will be in high spirits heading into this cup tie.
But Rangers are different proposition to anything Jim Goodwin's side have met this season and have still to taste defeat this season at home and abroad.
A 2-1 win at Dundee United on Sunday kept them clear at the top of the Premiership, with our man Slips Tips just missing out due to the Tangerines picking up only one card.
Stopping Celtic's quest for 10 in a row remains the top priority but Gers are desperate to end that trophy drought so they will take this tie seriously as they chase the first bit of silverware up for grabs this season.

St Mirren have been written off and are 12/1 with William Hilll to win inside 90 minutes and 7/1 at Bet365 to qualify. Rangers are a best 1/9 with Skybet to go through and 5/19 at RedZone to get the job done without extra time. A stalemate after 90 minutes pays 11/2 with Bet365.
Recent head to head
Rangers have won their last six games against St Mirren and are unbeaten in 12 since losing 2-1 in Paisley 10 years ago. The last clash in Paisley ended in a 1-0 win for Gerrard's side (below) while Rangers won 3-0 at Ibrox when these sides met in the Premiership earlier this season.
Players to watch
With Alfredo Morelos (below) looking out of sorts and permanently in the huff, I'm going to back Kemar Roofe for a Rangers goal. The former Leeds and Anderlecht forward has impressed and is 21/20 with SportNation to score. He's also 10/3 at McBookie to break the deadlock.
Jamie McGrath has scored in the last three St Mirren games and the Irish winger is in the form of his life. He looks overpriced at 7/1 with Paddy Power for another goal.
Anything else catch the eye?
St Mirren have been a tough nut to crack for Rangers of late, with two of the last three meetings ending in 1-0 wins. Gers also haven't scored more than two goals in any of their last six visits to Paisley.
For that reason, the Buddies appeal in the handicaps where St Mirren +2 is priced 21/20 at McBookie. Rangers to win after a level first half also looks decent at 3/1 with the same firm.
With both sides having good defensive records, I can see this one producing under 3.5 goals but the odds aren't great a best 8/13 with McBookie. The price increases to 13/8 with Unibet for under 2.5 strikes.
