Rangers vs Ross County

, KO: 19:45 Dec 27, 2023, Ibrox
Ross County

RANGERS continue to progress impressively under Philippe Clement and aim for their eighth win in a row on Wednesday when Ross County visit.

But their major aim and thoughts will be to make it nine when they face a crucial Old Firm showdown on Saturday.

Their win at Motherwell on Sunday was just about as routine as it gets and they are on quite the run just now which has yielded qualification for the next round of the Europa League by winning in Spain against Real Betis and the first trophy of the Clement era with a win over Aberdeen in the Viaplay Cup Final.

They are not at top form, far from it, but to keep digging out victories with an extensive injury list that saw key defender Connor Goldson added to defenders Borna Barisic, Ben Davies, midfielders Nicolas Raskin, John Lundstram, Tom Lawrence, Ryan Jack and Jose Cifuentes plus forwards Danilo and Kemar Roofe has been impressive.

They face the Staggies whose manager Derek Adams hit the headlines last week when he annihilated Scottish football in a rant and claimed his former club – English League Two mid-table outfit Morecambe – were ‘100 times better' than his current team.

They've lost their last two games at St Mirren and at home to Dundee.

How the bookies view it

Rangers are as short as 1/8 in places although Coral go 1/6.

Ross County can be backed at 20/1 with the same firm and the draw is 7/1 with bet365.

Recent head to heads

Rangers have never lost to Ross County in their 20 meetings and have won 16 of them. Rangers have won the last five meetings and eased to a 2-0 success in the Highlands earlier this season.

Players to watch

Rangers are running out of players, but Todd Cantwell has come through a patch where Clement didn't appear to trust him and he opened the scoring on Sunday at Fir Park. He is 12/5 to score anytime with Coral.

County's top scorer is former Hibs and Dundee United striker Simon Murray who is 7/1 with bet365.

Anything else catch the eye?

Rangers are pretty much down to the bare bones with their squad and while they should have too much for County, it might be a tighter-than-expected encounter.

County are no mugs and it could pay to back them to make it hard for Rangers at Ibrox against an injury-hit team who will surely have one eye on Parkhead on Saturday.

Rangers to win and under 3.5 goals at 21/20 with bet365 looks a really solid bet here.

And backing the Highlanders with a two-goal start at 8/5 with UniBet is also the call here in a match that may be closer than the odds suggest.
