PSV will take on Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday, 1 October as the second round of Champions League matches get underway.
PSV lost their opening match in the competition away at Juventus but with more leeway for bad results this season, they won't be worried about qualification just yet.
Sporting Lisbon, meanwhile, won their opening match at home to Lille. The Portuguese giants have been incredible so far this season and are ones to watch as dark horses in this year's competition.
How the bookies view it: Nothing to split them
The bookies aren't confident with this one and have left all three results very much on the table. Betfred have priced a win for PSV at 6/4 – an implied probability of 40% while a win for Sporting Lisbon has been priced at 13/8 – an implied probability of 38.1%. The draw, which would be Sporting's first dropped points of the season, has been priced at 13/5.
Recent head-to-head: A decider
PSV and Sporting Lisbon have only ever played each other on two previous occasions with both matches coming in the group stages of the 2019/20 Europa League. Both teams enjoyed a win each with the side playing at home coming out on top in both matches. The Dutch side will be hoping that this trend continues on Tuesday night.
Players to watch: A striker to be feared
Sporting Lisbon have won every match they've played this season and while the whole team has been performing at a high level, their most impressive player has once again been Viktor Gyokeres.
The 26-year-old signed for the club in the summer of 2022 and in his debut season, he scored more than 40 goals in all competitions as Sporting won the Primeira Liga. His form last season saw him linked with a host of big European clubs including Arsenal and Man Utd but he stayed put and has started the new season scoring at a similar rate once again.
He has scored 11 goals in eight appearances for Sporting Lisbon in the Primeira Liga and Champions League and will be the player that PSV are most concerned about on Tuesday night especially as they are without their main striker, Hirvin Lozano.
Predicted line-ups
As mentioned, Hirving Lozano is the biggest loss for PSV this week, the Dutch giants are also set to be without Sergino Dest and Fredrik Oppegard. Sporting Lisbon have big injury problems of their own with Pedro Goncalves and Marcus Edwards both unlikely to make it. Jerry St Juste and Diogo Pinto are also doubts.
PSV: Benitez – Junior, Flamingo, Boscagli, Dams – Til, Schouten, Veerman – Bakayoko, De Jong, Tillman
Sporting Lisbon: Israel – Quena, Debast, Inacio, Diomande, Santos – Morita, Hjulmand – Trincao, Gyokeres, Catamo
Anything else catch the eye?
While the result of this one is a difficult one to call, the type of match it will be isn't. Both of these teams have been involved in plenty of high-scoring fixtures this season, with four of PSV's and Sporting Lisbon's last six matches all producing more than two goals. Over 2.5 goals to be scored has been priced at 8/15 by Betfred.
