Newcastle United vs Liverpool

, KO: 16:00 Jul 26, 2020, St James' Park
Liverpool

LIVERPOOL bring the curtain down on their first title-winning campaign in 30 years with a trip to the north east to face Newcastle.

Having lifted the trophy in midweek following the 5-3 Anfield win over Chelsea, Jurgen Klopp's men can post a new club record points haul of 99 with a final-day victory.

They can also equal Man City's record of 32 wins in a season, set in the last two campaigns, but to do so will have to improve an away record that has yielded just one win in five.

Hosts Newcastle, meanwhile, will reach their highest points tally in six years if they beat the champions. They'll have to attempt it with a depleted defence that's missing injured centre-backs Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark, Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune.

The Magpies, though, have a decent home record against Liverpool – last season's 3-2 loss followed two Toon wins and two draws in the fixture at St James' Park.

Liverpool's newly-crowned Football Writers' Association Player of the Year Jordan Henderson and defender Joel Matip both miss out through injury.

How do the bookies view it?

Champions Liverpool are 5-12 at Sportingbet to end their memorable season with victory, while the Magpies are 15-2 at William Hill and the draw pays 17-4 at bet365.

Betting angles

Liverpool have eased off since securing the title, but will want to sign off in style and should do so.

Back the Reds, over 1.5 goals and over 7 match corners for a bet365 Bet Builder paying 20-23.

End-of-season matches usually have a sense of carefree abandon where teams throw caution to the wind and go goal daft. Anyone remember Stoke City's 6-1 final-day win over Liverpool five years ago?

Newcastle haven't exactly been prolific this season, but they aren't short of attacking flair and can bag a goal against a Liverpool side that's had btts in four straight matches. Go for that becoming five on the spin at 17-20 with William Hill.

Mo Salah looks certain to be passing on his Golden Boot award from last season – the Egyptian is four behind 23-goal Jamie Vardy – but will be determined to reach the 20 mark and is 5-6 at SportNation to net any time and 13-4 at Unibet for the opener.
