Hungary vs Bosnia and Herzegovina

, KO: 19:45 Sep 10, 2024, Puskas Arena Park
Bosnia and Herzegovina

Hungary and Bosnia Herzegovina both suffered heavy defeats in their UEFA Nations League openers so they will be desperate to bounce back when they lock horns in Budapest.

The Hungarians were back in Germany on Saturday night, just a few weeks after crashing out of Euro 2024 at the end of the group stage, despite winning their final game at the death against Scotland.

That was a painful exit and there was more misery in Dusseldorf as the Germans ran riot, bring up two bets for our man Andy and one of Saturday's super singles.

On the same night, Bosnia and Herzegovina were also suffering at the hands of a European giant as they crashed to a 5-2 loss on the road in the Netherlands.

Andy fancied the Dutch to win comfortably and two more bets came up for him as Bosnia's defence failed to deal with some slick forwards.

So it will be interesting to see which team manages to put a hammering behind them and get back on track in their Nations League group.

How the bookies view it: Hungary fancied at home

Budapest has become a fortress for Hungary in recent years so it's no surprise to the home side as Betfred's 4/5 favourites. Bosnia and Herzegovina are 100/30 outsiders and the draw pays 11/4.

Recent head to head: Bosnians out to break their duck

These nations have faced off just three times since the break-up of Yugoslavia and Hungary are unbeaten across those games. The last two meetings have ended in Hungarian victories, including a 1-0 win in Budapest when the Bosnians last came calling in 2007.

Players to watch: Dominik's a diamond

Dominik Szoboszlai is the creative spark for Hungary and will be key to breaking down Bosnia and Hezegovina. The playmaker has started the season well for Liverpool and is 5/2 for anytime scorer.

Veteran Edin Dzeko is still shouldering the burden for Bosnian goals at the age of 38. He has 66 goals from 135 caps after netting on Saturday while nobody else in the squad is yet to reach double figures. He has also started the season well for Fenerbahce and is a bit overpriced at 3/1 for anytime scorer.

Probable line-ups

Both teams should be along similar lines to their weekend Nations League openers, although the managers might freshen things up a little after two terrible results.

Hungary: Gulacsi, Bolla, Botka, Orban, Dardai, Kerkez, Nagy, Schafer, Szoboszlai, Sallai, Varga

Bosnia: Piric, Radeljic, Ahmedhodzic, Katic, Bicakcic, Kolasinac, Gigovic, Tahirovic, Krunic, Hajradinovic, Dzeko

Anything else catch the eye?

Bosnia have struggled to score on their travels of late, drawing blanks on three of their last six away days. They did score twice against the Dutch but I can see this game being cagey and a home win to nil pays 15/8 at Betfred. Betting against BTTS is decent value on its own at 5/6.

This match could take a bit of time to warm-up with both teams hurting a little so I also like the 11/1o on offer for most goals to come in the second half.
