The hosts find themselves in a curious position of facing a huge battle to stay in the top flight despite some eye-catching results this season especially at home.
In the space of a week in January, they drew with both Rangers and Celtic and then knocked Dundee United out of the Scottish Cup.
However, since those heady days, they've suffered a nightmare drop in form. They haven't won a league game since the start of January and could even find themselves bottom of the league going into this game if St Johnstone beat Aberdeen by a few goals.
Dundee United have enjoyed a fine season which sees them battling for third place with Aberdeen and Hibs.
However, they are hardly going through a great spell either. They have managed just one win since January 11.
They looked like they had turned the corner two weeks ago when they cruised to a 2-0 lead at Aberdeen only to collapse in the second half and they ended up having to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw at Pittodrie.

Despite their recent run, Dundee usually have the ability of raising their game at Dens Park, where they have of course already beaten United.
It's hard to see why a United side who have lost seven of their last ten games are such odds-on favourites here.
Unlike plenty of previous Dundee derbies, there could be goals here and it may be an entertaining clash.
All of their meetings so far have seen plenty of chances at both ends and neither defence looks watertight at the moment – United have had one clean sheet in their last seven games and Dundee last kept a clean sheet in the league back in October!
