THERE have been plenty of shocks as Russia 2018 but a seismic one came with the exit of Germany.
The world champions had been poor in their opening two games but not many expected them to crumble against previously pointless South Korea when a 1-0 win would have put them through.
Sweden finished top of Group F and if England come second in Group G they could face Sweden or Switzerland for a place in the semi-finals.
Problem is Belgium will probably want to finish second too so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.
Well done to all the winners and there were some good ones – and again on penalties.
Thursday also brings Panama v Tunisia and before that it's Japan v Poland and Senegal v Colombia as the group stage is completed.
I've posted my thoughts on the four games and there will be previews from site contributors too.
Well done to any winners last night especially those profiting from penalties. VAR means there should be plenty in the last 16.

I wouldn’t touch the England game until the early games have finished.
If Colombia finish 2nd in their group England and Belgium would rather avoid them I’m sure so it will be a race to finish 2nd so they would meet Japan or Senegal.
Could be an honourable draw in that case which keeps their unbeaten runs going with both teams going for the most bookings to finish 2nd as goal difference and goals scored would be identical and yellows are expunged from quarter finals so one yellow tomorrow will be taking one for the team.

If Colombia win the group then England and Belgium would rather win to avoid them so I don’t buy the belgians saying 10 changes as the scenario come kick off might be different.

Basically it could be a shit game with more cards than goals

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Cards could decide who finishes second. I agree Colombia would be the tougher game but if your ambition is to go all the way you shouldn’t worry who you meet.

    • alex_mufc83 6 years ago

can’t believe you deleted my Its Coming Home comment Mr F, was a tongue in cheek pop at Ze Germans who love to sing that to England fans when we lose lol

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Sorry but it’s 3 words that haunt most Scots.
Couldn’t believe the number of people in the bookies today backing England to win the World Cup “just in case”.

    • alex_mufc83 6 years ago

made my day that, on both counts! haha

  2. yarmouthboy 6 years ago

Been reading the site for ages but am going to start posting finally…

I agree with the above. This is not really a game to bet on with any certainty.

If there is the incentive to win I’m going for the following small stakes bet, just as for some interest. I don’t think it’s going to be high scoring no matter what, and any goals could come from set pieces.

Method of first goal – Header – 9/2 (Skybet)

  3. xhaka khan 6 years ago

Both teams will play to win. This won’t be tactical. If Belgium put a decent team out I fancy them to nick it 2-1, 3-2

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Both teams may want to finish second and Belgium have already said they’ll be seriously weakened.

  4. jimba 6 years ago

Not betting on England game, think it will be a draw, shame this wasn’t a do or die match. GL ?

  5. shaky 6 years ago

Hows this for a bet that has somehow survived against all odds Mr F?

Last month I chucked a free £5 bet on every team to score at least 2 goals in the tournament, 250/1 with skybet. It looked dead and buried after the 2nd round of matches but somehow it’s still clinging on for dear life.

Egypt had only 1 goal, Saudi Arabia none, going into their last match. SA managed to nick a 2-1 win in injury time.
Then I needed Iran to score against Portugal, which they duly did, again in the last minute.
I needed Morocco to get 2 against Spain, which somehow happened.
Peru got their 2 goals required against Australia.
Iceland waiting until 15 mins from time to do their part against Croatia.
South Korea got the goal I wanted against Germany in the 90th minute.
Costa Rica needed to score twice against Switzerland, and despite being 0-0 after 55mins, they managed to get their 2nd of the game in the 93rd minute, courtesy of a penalty that hit the bar and rebounded in off the keeper’s head. (I’d thrown £100 at 3/1 on the penalty to be missed, to cover the bet a bit, and got paid for that too!)

Just need one from Poland and one from Panama today now.!

    • xhaka khan 6 years ago

You jammy get shaky!! Still that’s amazing. I worry about Poland, they look terrible but good luck!

    • alex_mufc83 6 years ago

haha nice shaky, love hearing about these sorts of punts – well done

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

It’s a cracking bet – you could ensure a bit of profit by backing them not to score or wait inplay and hope for an early goal for one of them.
I’d worry more about Poland who have been awful.

    • shaky 6 years ago

I’ve put a bit onto Both to Score – No in the Poland Japan game. I’ll get paid on that if Poland draw a blank, but also paid on it if Poland win to nil. I’ll do something similar for the Panama game if the bet’s still alive.

    • agd 6 years ago

Poland is in ,hoping Panama get one for you that would be great especially as you used a free bet good luck

    • xhaka khan 6 years ago

There it is. Time to put this ole house on shaky and party!

    • shaky 6 years ago

happy days. such a ridiculously unlikely run of results for it to come off!

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

      Yeah that’s a cracker.

    • happyhendry 6 years ago

well done your all teams over 1.5 goals one won. 1250 from a free fiver. :)

  6. craigyboy 6 years ago

Backed the Germans pre tournament and in hindsight what a pathetic pick that was, almost as pathetic as the performances of the German players. Should have seen the warning signs in their friendlies prior to the tournament.

Regardless, this tournament is wide open now. Before the tournament I assumed it would be the big boys in the semi-finals and the final, I’m now doubting that.

Whether people actually think England can win this or whether it’s just wishful thinking, the realistic assessment of how its panned out so far is that they probably won’t have a better time to win it.

It’s quite ironic to think that how Germany played, England would have fancied their chances against them.

As it is I’ve been left unimpressed with the majority of the big nations. Croatia have been outstanding and are still worth backing at 13/1. Colombia at 33/1 are also worth a punt. I fully expect them to be too strong for Senegal today and there odds will fall over the next week or so if they can get the job done.

  7. go go jk 6 years ago

England Pickford; Jones, Stones, Cahill; Trippier, Dier, Delph, Loftus-Cheek, Rose; Vardy, Kane

Belgium Courtois; Alderweireld, Kompany, Vermaelen; Chadli, Dembele, Fellaini, T Hazard; Tielemans, Batshuayi, E Hazard.

This match is a complete dead rubber and anti climax .

After the farce of Panama England have another match which is nt totally challenging due to situation .

Have to say Japan Colombia or Senegal will severely test England and that’s when the matches start to matter .

I imagine cards could be a factor today as Martinez has basically come out and said this is a celebration match for Belgium.
England would like to win for pride and like Mexico v Germany this would be the nations ‘cup final’

So a glorified friendly with perhaps some deliberate bookings occuring .

    Kane to score anytime 6/4
    Fellaini 2/1 to be booked
    Delph 3/1 to be booked
    Dier header anytime 28/1

I’ll be looking to request a few bets with sky bet and make some value in match.
I already requested Fellaini and Dier both to score a header and they priced it @300/1

Kompany is getting some match time so will be interesting seeing him up against Vardy.

    • mattr 6 years ago

Asking players to take a booking for sake of group placing knowing that another yellow in last 16 would see them miss Quarter final? Can’t see it myself ?

    • xhaka khan 6 years ago

They get scrubbed before the last 16

    • mattr 6 years ago

      After the last 16….

  8. mattr 6 years ago

Morning. Still keeping head above water with 2nd half highest scoring. Just. So usual 1 point singles and half point ACCA today. Also a bit of research tells me that U2.5mg may be the trend from last 16 onwards so will probably have a tickle on that market. Will look more in next 24 hours.

Got a fun tenner on this fourfold today:

    England v Belgium O2.5mg
    Senegal v Columbia O2.5mg
    Panama v Tunisia O3.5 cards
    Poland to score

    Pays 19/1

    Have a good day.

  9. xhaka khan 6 years ago

I think the number of penalties will drop in the last 16. The good teams are less likely to grapple in the area (Brazil v Serbia was case in point) and are less likely to dive in in the penalty area so I think the number will come down.

Might go back to watching for the first couple of games and leave it to Alex to lead the charge.

    • alex_mufc83 6 years ago

as a counter point, there are still plenty of South American teams in the tournament, who love to take a tumble in the box… you could argue this is more likely to happen as the games are closer/tougher and a team is desperate for a goal. The likes of Suarez, Neymar & co. spring to mind.

    • Mr Fixit 6 years ago

I think VAR will ensure the penalty count remains high.

  10. maccathered 6 years ago

Sweden look way overpriced to beat Switzerland at 11/5,been impressed with their lightning counter attacks.

  11. alex_mufc83 6 years ago

    *Pen bets*

2 out of 4 landing yesterday sees some more profit. That brings the total to 22 winning pen bets in 41 games since I started.

    Today’s games;

    Senegal v Colombia
    Penalty in match
    33/20

    Japan v Poland
    Penalty in match
    7/4

    England v Belgium
    Penalty in match
    7/4

    Panama v Tunisia
    Penalty in match
    7/4

    Small even stake singles.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Why not do them in a lucky 15 alex

    • alex_mufc83 6 years ago

I’ve been doing singles throughout the tournament and want to keep the consistency. makes it easier with the totals and don’t want to dip into that balance. but not a bad shout macca as an additional separate bet if I use 1 point from a different pot.

    • maccathered 6 years ago

Surely doing lucky 15s will be more profitable than doing 4 singles, you win for one correct, four correct you hit the jackpot lol

    • alex_mufc83 6 years ago

If all 4 landed then yes the L15 would be more profitable, but that’s very unlikely. The way they have been averaging out is 50% chance of a penalty in each game, often seeing 2 of 4 games landing.
Comparing the same total stake, lets say 4 POINTS, with all odds more or less the same, if I did them as 4 singles – 2 land I make profit, whereas the same total stake as a L15 if only 2 landed I would make a slight loss on my total stake.

I’m doing the singles as it’s building a steady profit as long as at least half of them land.

    • old al 6 years ago

I’m with you on this one Alex, to me it never makes sense doing a lucky 15 unless the prices are high { if you can get a profit from two winners}. One bet looses you’ve lost over half your bets, Your way, if they all come in you’re quids in anyway and two is a profit. Each to their own I suppose.

Taking all the possibilities, who will pass through if:
    Poland win
    Colombia draw?

Further more, I am going for btts in Japan and Colombia to win .

The best football of the tournament so far played from
    Uruguay Brasil Croatia and Colombia.

To reach the semifinals I am very confident that Croatia is the one, I am not sure if I posted before (Croatia to win the group).

To pass through also the above 3 adding Sweden.

Sweden, have no star but they have spirit and soul.

About England-Belgium, both they want to avoid Colombia for sure, a draw is the most possible result and Panama, btts GG&OVER should be there.
