WHEN Saturday comes I usually struggle to pick the best ones on my shortlist so let's hope I can get it right this weekend.
I've tried to work out why my tips are better on other days and made some changes to the way I choose my final teams.
Firstly I've shortened my shortlist and secondly I've focused on fewer leagues – concentrating on the English Premier League and Championship and Scottish leagues. Also risking fewer points on Saturdays until I see more winners – in reality I've added three 1pt accas to the single I posted earlier in the week.
Last week for example Saturday saw me shed 4.5pts but have winning nights from Sunday to Wednesday.

Leeds come into this game on a 7 game unbeaten streak and scored in all of them. Their 7 games have produced 1-2-3-1-3-1-2 Team goals and no loss so far. Leeds have played 4 games in championship and sit top with 10 points got and 7 goals scored and the best defence with 2 conceded.
Stoke are bottom of the league and worst defence in league with 10 goals conceded in 4 games and only 5 scored and only a draw to their name and winless in 10. Leeds have the highest shots on target and attacking percentages for the championship behind Swansea who have been good to me. Stoke have conceded in the first half 2xs already this campaign and I hope leeds can add to that. Stokes confidence is low and leeds will want revenge for losing to them in January but that was irrelevant as a 28 point gap in league and leeds had scored 73 where as stoke only 45. I feel leeds have enough to win this and im taking them as my Nap and to continue their charge in the championship.

I was at the stoke v derby v game last week and stoke should of scored at least 5, we were shocking at Preston but that defeat was down to butland ,like you say it looks like an away banker ,but don’t be surprised if stoke don’t throw a spanner in the works,I’m old enough to remember 6_2 and 7_2 home wins over Leeds in the 80s.😁

This is a very intriguing bout tonight in Chelyabinsk Russia (site of the the 2013 meteor strike) as we’ll find out where each fighter is at. Yarde has KO’d 17 of his 18 opponents and is unbeaten but said opponents were specifically lined up for him to look good against so tonight he’ll be dipping his toes into world level waters for the very first time. Kovalev has been one of boxing’s most dangerous punchers for a good while. He ruled the light heavyweight division for a period and is a three time champion at the weight but age is creeping up on him and at 36 years old has lost 3 fights in the last 3 years with 2 by way of KO.
Yarde’s trainer Tunde Ajayi certainly has had his fair share of critics for the unorthodox methods he employs for his fighter; no sparring or running is quite an alien concept in the game, instead he chooses to focus his energies on pad work to build reflexes and muscle memory and to be fair up to now it’s worked but there have been warning signs. Yarde at times keeps his left hand very low in the pocket and as a result has been clipped by the right hand of earlier mentioned tomato cans. Kovalev is an incredibly concussive puncher and that right hand is his meat & drink so Yarde needs to be conscious to the threat. I believe once he tastes Kovalev’s power he’ll plan his attacks more sporadically. Probably two of the best opponents Yarde has faced up to this point Sek and Averlant both got to the 7th round before meeting their demise and I’m confident Kovalev will follow suit albeit without the KO.
Since losing his WBO title in a big upset loss to Eleider Alvarez, a fight where his was knocked down three times before being counted out, top ten pound for pound fighter Kovalev hired a new trainer in the shape of Buddy McGirt and the move looks to have worked wonders him. A lot of errors Kovalev made in that first fight with Alvarez were addressed in the rematch, like getting caught whilst punching and just all round sloppy footwork. Kovalev put on a clinic in the second fight earlier this year; he kept the fight at distance boxing behind an authoritative jab that halted Alvarez’ charge forward and it also led to some nasty hooks around the guard and to the body. Kovalev won the rematch by way of a dominant 12 round decision to regain his WBO title and become a three time world champion. It’s highly likely that version of Kovalev will show up today in which case this fight could go a similar way. Yarde has respectable power but not quite the one hitter quitter sort, its more the
accumulative nature that does his opponents in the end. That said I do think both fighters will respect each others power enough that there’ll be 6+ rounds. I can’t pick a winner tbh but I do think neither will come out steaming early for the KO. I also think Kovalev’s stamina will degrade quite noticeably as the fight progresses.

Totally with you on that A3. Hughie fights too conservatively on the back foot for me. Just seems content to score his way to points decisions, no spite in him really. He can throw a decent counter right when he wants to but I’m sure Povetkin with all his experience should see them coming. Povetkin throws shots from an array of angles and being the shorter man will no doubt be looking to get up close to work inside. Can only see a Povetkin points win as the most likely outcome there.

The bookies seem to think it will be a walk in the park for Liverpool today pricing them at less than 1/2 on for the win, which I think is ridiculous given the way they have played so far this season. Liverpool look uncharacteristically wobbily at the back and are lucky to only have conceded two so far.
I think the gunners attack can capitalise today. Aubameyang and Lacazette are far too clinical to make mistakes against and Arsenal are coming together with a new look team front front to back with some very talented players such as Cabellos and Pepe eager to make their mark.

I’m interested by the FAI cup tie today between Glengad and Waterford. I just think there might be a perfect storm brewing that could lead to a massive win for Waterford. First off Waterford are a professional Irish Premier League side. While Glengad are top of the tree locally and do well nationally in the junior game they are nevertheless amateurs training a couple of times a week. Secondly the game is being played at McGinn park in Buncrana after Glengad’s own ground was deemed unsuitable for the tie. This is where Derry City were playing their home games while the Brandywell was being done up so will be up to Irish Premier standards and should suit Waterford better. Thirdly Waterford are already into their League campaign so are already up to speed whereas Glengad are in their of season.
I’m sure the Glengad lads will want to give a good account of themselves and keep it tight but if Waterford go for this from the off and make an early break through they could embarrass them badly. Just my thoughts anyway, would be interested to hear from the Irish experts on here.

Pre Derby/WBA thoughts:
Derby were abject last time out against Bristol who’d done enough before to wrap up all the pts. Derby were 2nd to ever loose ball and still not having Marriott on for the full 90 mins is irking the Rams faithful, bar one shot at goal, the bulk of our attacking play came after he was brought on too late in the 2nd half. He then rammed up down the gaffers throat by scoring a peach not long after his introduction. Apparently he had some food poisoning. I’d like to see him on for 90 mins.
Many in a Derby shirt were below par and the service to the front was 3rd rate. We uncharacteristically dominated the corner count without conceding any every other in-play stat. But if you don’t do the basics, possession and shots at goal don’t count for anything if you don’t capitalize on it.
Derby know how to play against WBA, having done the league double on them last season. 3-1 and 4-1. That last half hour against Bristol has to of given the boss food for thought with team selection, but it must include Marriott to start.
If he start’s we have a chance of winning, we still don’t know our best 11 because we’ve not played them together. I do think this game is poised for a BTTS though.

Today is a minefield of too much choice whatever you’re betting on and there are too many chances for this to be over analysed and over complicated. It is a real trip-me-up day so be aware of that guys. Safety is still my number one priority and not big numbers. Hence I’ll be looking at Derby’s early kick-off at 12:30hrs.
The price pre kick off is 1/25, I expected it to be low. Just do the usual and ride it for 10 minutes. Go ahead eagles yesterday threw an early spanner in the works with delivering an early goal – too early and we resorted to a plan b’. It made us sweat but delivered in the end. If this game yields an early goal, scrub it and start looking towards the 3pm kick offs. I’ll try and find a few options for then, but I’m not going to be spending all day bouncing from several groups of games. 2, maybe 3 games today is enough to keep it ticking over. Good luck guys.

fresh from our first away win at dover last week and a large talented squad to choose from we are considered firm favourites (8/13 bet365) against a side that were relegated to the league we won, but repreived when gateshead chose regionalised football over bankruptcy
their form is patchy so far, a win, a draw and three defeats. ours is 2-1-2 but crucially we’ve outplayed every side we’ve faced with the exception of the first half at promotion hopefuls solihull moors. with that in mind and the level of talent at GJ’s disposal i’m going to recommend a healthy home win, once that early goal eventually goes in we’ll demolish someone and i think that today could be the day?? my bet will be torquay win and over 3.5 goals! It’s 4 changes, lost track of who started last week, but Know Marriott gets his start ahead of Bennett, Malone is dropped in favour of Lowe, Buchanen instead of Shinnie and Knight in place of Clarke.
I’d prefer to see Clarke on the pitch as he’s been quality, so maybe there’s an issue there. Glad to see Marriott get the start. Now he needs to shine for 90 minutes. Last weeks goal against Bristol was top drawer. the game is winnable but as per every new campaign, Derby’s season has followed the usual pattern of stuttering.
I think BTTS is still the way forwards on this one. WBA are unbeaten.
