I'VE been biding my time to make my season's bow on the site, but now that we've a few games under our belt it's time to make use of the stats and pick out some goals bets for the weekend.

Those of you who have already listened my Gambla Betting Podcast with Greg will have heard my thoughts on the games below, but hopefully I can flesh out those picks a bit more here. If you've not listened to the Podcast yet then I'd recommend you give it a go (of course I would), it's only 17 minutes long and you'll also be able to hear Greg's tips for the weekend in there too.

Wycombe to score 2+

Wycombe have made an impressive unbeaten start to the season and find themselves two points off the pace at the top of League One. Two home wins and two draws on the road sees them on eight points from 12 and they can add to that tally at home to Southend on Saturday.

The Shrimpers have yet to secure a point so far, and but for points deductions for Bolton and Bury they'd find themselves stone last. They've shipped 10 goals in their four matches and look like they could be destined for a relegation battle again this season.

Wycombe have the chance to record their best ever start to a season in the third tier and have recorded the most shots in the league so far this season (64 in four) and are third in the shots-on-target table with 5.50 per match. Compare that to 2.00 per match for Southend and the stats point heavily in favour of the home win. Wycombe can be backed at 3/4 to win (were 10/11 on Thursday) but I prefer goals bets and will be taking them to enjoy much more possession, carve out more chances and to score two or more at 5/6 (Bet365)

Crawley v Leyton Orient Over 2.5 Goals

Crawley's 19.50 shots per match average is only bettered by Manchester City in the top four divisions in England, however they've not been converting their chances anywhere near as effectively. They've netted six in their opening four, which is poor return for their average of 6 shots on target per match.

However I'm happy to take them to conrtibute to the goals count when they visit Leyton Orient on Saturday. Orient are three points better off than their guests but have scored two fewer. However, they too rank highly in shots-on-target table.

That would suggest that each side are capable of creating chances, lets just hope they're got their shooting boots with them. Both Teams to Score is around the 4/5 mark but you can get better value at 1/1 on there being Over 2.5 Goals.

Mansfield to score 2+

The final pick for the weekend is at Mansfield where the home side should see off third-from-bottom, Stevenage.

The visitors have yet to find the back of the net in their four matches to date, whereas Mansfield are top scorers in the division with eight goals. The Stags fans have had plenty of value for money already this season, witnessing three 2-2 draws (one in the cup), a 2-0 win and a 2-3 defeat in their first five fixtures.

So it's clear Mansfield know their way to goal. They're 4/5 to score at least two here.
