Top Football Tips

IF every game was like Liverpool v Norwich there probably wouldn't be any bookies.

The opening game of the Premier League season went pretty much as expected as the Reds won 4-1.

Over 2.5 goals, over 3.5 and even 4.5 were well tipped as was Liverpool and both to score and Mo Salah to net first .. and even Teemu Pukki to hit the target was popular.

Fair play to Norwich for giving it a go and they created some decent chances before winning the second half but if they're as attacking as that the better sides will pick them off at will.

Well done to all the winners on the Liverpool game including macca with his goals bets and nb84 picked a cracker with Virgil van Dijk to score with a header at 9-1.

Other winners on the night included Greg with his French goals double and HullShaker with his nap -in fact too many to mention.

I had an OK night with the Super Single winning at 5-6 as Dundee United came from 1-0 down to win at Partick Thistle. Lawrence Shankland netted their first to give me a 3-1 anytime scorer double with Salah but the first-scorer double was a loser and a 0-0 at Anderlecht v Mechelen beat the goals treble.

There are loads of tips up for Saturday from the usual suspects so have a look before picking out your bets.

Check out Saturday's other tips here at MrFixitsTips

My Super Single in the Daily Record is Livingston draw no bet at St Johnstone but that's also my Challenge Bet so I wanted to go for something else here.

I said last night nothing stood out but I have cockerspaniel to thank for this one after saying Hamilton were too big at 9-2 at home to Kilmarnock. It's a game that could go either way but he's right to say 9-2 is too big so I'm going Hamilton not to lose at 6-5 with William Hill.

The action starts early with Motherwell v Celtic at noon and then West Ham v Man City so plenty to look forward to.

Isn’t Edinburgh short at least from two key players? [Both Antell and Henderson-top goalscorer received red cards vs Cove Rangers?]. Can they still beat Brechin?

    • Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Brechin haven’t won since March – Edinburgh should be good enough.

Great stuff Mr F and well done to all winners – looked like a cracking night for the site!

I’m stopping up for a late Night Owl game and fancy the away side to put in a decent shift after some sound performances against good opposition.

Certainly not one to go mad on but it has a chance:

GENERAL DÍAZ VS. RIVER PLATE (1.00am):

River Plate over 1.5 team goals

Good to see many of the old timers still knocking about these parts! I took a bit of time away from betting on the football towards the back end of last season. In fact, I finished up a month or so before the season closed out due to life getting in the way and a poor run of form.

It’s taken me a bit of time to get back into the swing of things but I’ve been lurking around the site nonetheless. I’ve actually been focusing my betting energy on the flat season with the ‘orses, and it’s meant that I’ve not had my usual warm-up of betting on mismatched pre-season friendlies to ease myself back into things!

Still, the new season is underway. I planned to wait until September before I started getting stuck in, but I can’t help but think I’m missing out on all the fun. One game stood out to me a little bit too this weekend, so let’s see if we can shake off a few cobwebs.

Not sure if I’ll manage to be punting as often as I once did, but hopefully I can get back to contributing again and finding the odd winner.

Hull, DC, WC, Kyle, Alex, Shortee and all the other regular faces I used to natter to most – I hope you’re all well (and still about!).

    Good luck all.

Cheers Leroy man and great to see you back dude. Hope the cobwebs are well dusted off and you will be back to your usual sparkling form today 👍 missed your write ups, naps and trebles etc. Hope you had a good break and a great addition to have back the site to help all punters with your knowledge and betting style

    Derby v Swansea:

Opening game on Monday saw Derby grab 2 quick deserved goals away at Huddersfield and looked like they’d run away with it, only for the party to be slightly spoiled by a clumsy penalty, this spurred Huddersfield into another gear. Although they got the lions share of the play in the 2nd half, with dangerous looking attacks, they clearly forgot to include shooting practice into their pre-season.
Derby face a Swansea team that I think is still not quite there yet. Obviously the big news at Derby is the Rooney situation, but playing without Shinnie ( who I’ve learned off this site ) likes to put in a shift, record signing Bielik probably isn’t fit and our big goal threat Marriott warmed the bench On Monday night.
Derby’s 2 standout players were Lawrence and new loanee Clarke who had a solid game at the back.
The last 3 times Derby have played Swansea has seen BTTS land, and the last 2 matches at Derby facing Swansea have seen the Rams win by a 2-1 score line.
I see Mr F has tipped them on the BTTS, I’d say highly probable.
With home advantage, buoyed by Rooney’s arrival in 5 months, season ticket sales have increased on the back of this news and they’re already selling shirts in the club shop. The fans do feel we can lay down a marker before he arrives.
We often have results in August go all over the place, a slight improvement in September, then the customary purple patch come October to December. I’m looking at the next 4 or 5 games in all competitions and they’re all winnable. But come mid September, we don’t need the hassle of being 12-18 pts off the top 2 spots. I think this league is there for the taking by any team that wants it.
A slow start has always hurt us.
I’m having another £10 on the Derby win. Looking on most of the usual big bookies via oddschecker and they’ll nail you to prices around 6/5 – 5/4, but if you jump away from the usual suspects and use oddschecker, there are several bookies offering 13/10 or slightly better.
I think the bookies have this one wrong. Personally, I’m happy, but a realistic price would surely be around 8/11?
Good luck guys, I’ll post team news and thoughts around an hour before kick off.

One that might be worth putting on the radar today:
Ross County to beat the bet365 goal time of 70 minutes 5-6
Think county are overpriced here given recent form on both teams looking at recent form:
County flying with 6 wins, scoring 2+ in all (17 overall)
Hearts form mixed, conceding at least a goal in 7 out of last 8 (13 overall).

    One for the golfers tonight:
Dustin Johnson to beat Spieth 8-11
Great round by Spieth yesterday but think he will struggle to follow that up given his poor driving whilst DJ is playing well within himself and cruised round in 67 that could easily have been a 63 with the number of short putts he missed.
    Good luck all today 👍

    • shortee 5 years ago

Looked at his myself as I love the goal time market and the nice prices. I’ll have a go definitely as I feel they are way over priced

    • ged72 5 years ago

On the goal before time subject I think West Hams goal time of 79 minutes at evens (Bet365) is well worth a go. They score plenty at home ( most outside the top six) and have strengthened their attacking options in the summer. Given City have lost Kompany , I’ll have a few quid on this.

      Well done Hunter 💰

Half time break at the Turf, absolute bore fest of a opening 45. I wouldn’t hold my breath that it’s gonna get any better going into the second half either, strong winds here, players slipping all over the show and little to no chances for both sides. Dull start to the season and somehow getting soaked in the upper tier with the pissing rain. 💩

Just back from my game – it’s all changed second half at Burnley.

Early post for any Night Owls out there…

    SÃO PAULO VS. SANTOS (11.00pm):

I’ve had my eye on Santos for a while and they’ve obliged perfectly with my last two team goals bets netting 6 and 3 times in the process!

I just think the bookmakers are underestimating their form as they travel to Sao Paulo whose reputation precedes them – yes, they are a great side but, coupled with Santos’ current form, H2H’s have always seemed fairly close fought encounters.

In fact, of the last 26 H2H’s played at Sao Paulo, Santos have only failed to score in 6 giving an ‘away goal success’ rate of 77% – taking the analysis a step further, Santos have scored 2 or more goals in an impressive 15 of those 26 which equates to an ‘away brace success rate’ of 58%…not too shabby a record!

Of all the South American Leagues, bookies have the best grip on the Brasilian top-flight so it’s rare to see a pricing mismatch and, although this isn’t necessarily an incorrect pricing, it does open up the back door for a bit of potential value:

    Recommended bets:

    Santos goal before 67:00
    (5/6, bet365)

    Santos over 1.5 team goals
    (9/4, bet365)

    Good luck 😉

Hunter i have being doing it for a couple of seasons now . I am well in front . If you get a double up you are more or less covered for the next 3 bets .If you get the 3 up you are quids in front . The SPL and English Championship still offer decent prices . I think it`s a great bet as it is not over untill the final whistle .

    • cockerspaniel 5 years ago

Hunter . There have been at least 1 pen awarded in 4 games involving Aberdeen this season so far . 10/3 for one against St Mirren tomorrow is a stand out bet for me .

    Ajax v Emmen

Difficult to find value in this game tonight, but I think Ajax can overcome a -5 corner handicap. Ajax play their full strenght team and have a good record on corners at home. Against similar oppostion Ajax won the corner count at home, 7-1 v Excelsior, 13-2 v NAC, 7-0 v Fortuna and 11-2 v Emmen last season. At Feyenoord and PSV Emmen lost the corners 8-2 and 10-1.

The Ajax -5 corners handicap is available @ 1.85

I’ve more interest in the Santos game later as previewed but it’s always hard to ignore Cerro Porteno’s games at the moment so it could be worth a look – I’ve picked out 3 selections that all hold appeal for anyone considering the game…

SOL DE AMÉRICA VS. CERRO PORTEÑO (11.30pm):

Key here is that Cerro’s congested fixture list doesn’t factor as much as the hosts – SDA play again in 5 days time whereas Cerro have 11 days before they travel to Argentina to take on River Plate.

That could be crucial and may well be a good time to take on the potentially free-scoring Cerro away from home and with a rare bit of time on their hands:

    Cerro goal before 42:00
    (5/6, bet365)

    Cerro over 1.5 team goals
    (8/11, bet365)

    Cerro over 2.5 team goals
    (12/5, bet365)

    Best of luck.

Santos goal on ’44 and beats the goal time by 23 minutes – another would be great for the 9/4 away brace 😀
