FRANCE are just behind Colombia in teams who have lit up the tournament and can beat Germany (5pm) if their rivals defend like they did against Algeria.

The Africans exposed Joachin Low's defence time after time but their finishing was woeful and Manuel Neuer excelled in his keeper/sweeper role.

Neuer will have to be on guard again because a side lacking genuine full-backs could be caught on the hop by quick-thinking players such as Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Valbuena.

France also have quality up front in the shape of Karim Benzema, Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann who could get the nod ahead of Giroud after a supersub show against Nigeria.

In what's almost a 50-50 game France look value at 23-10 at Coral to win in 90 minutes and 5-4 with bet365 to qualify. But maybe the best bet is to keep the draw on side and take France not to lose at 4-6 with Coral.

Germany are 6-4 favourites at McBookie and 8-11 to reach the semi-finals.

Both sides are in-form with France losing once in their last 15 and Germany one in 25. Since Germany last played France, a match they won 2-1 back in February 2013, Low's boys have scored 51 times in 19 matches, comfortably averaging over 2.5 goals per game.

I'd be piling into over 2.5 goals and both to score if it hadn't been for the lack of counters in the last-16 games although the quarter-final matches are expected to be more open.

Benzema is first-scorer favourite at 6-1 with Paddy Power and William Hill to score first but if he starts I'll consider Griezmann at 10-1 with 888sport after the way he changed the game when he appeared against Nigeria or 7-2 at 888sport to net at any time.

Thomas Muller is also 6-1 at Ladbrokes while Mario Gotze is 15-2 with William Hill.

Germany to score two or more goals in this match is best odds of 13-8 through Coral, according to easyodds.com.

Following their extra-time victory against Algeria in the second round, easyodds reveal that 14 of Germany's last 17 goals have been scored in the second half of matches or later.

Fifteen of France's last 23 goals have also been scored in the second half. With that in mind the second half to be a higher-scoring affair looks good value at 6-5 with Stan James.

According to easyodds William Hill offer 2-1 the first goal is scored after half-time and 7-5 on the second half being Germany's highest scoring 45.

France have kept three clean sheets from their four matches so far at the tournament and seven in their last 10. Ladbrokes offer 4-7 on a first-half French clean sheet and BetVictor and McBookie go 21-10 on Hugo Lloris keeping a shut-out for the full 90 minutes.

France have not played any decent team yet and if Nigerians onside goal counted they could have been out.

I remember something u said in euro2008 never right off the Germans specially when they have been written off.

I’m on the Germans to qualify at 8/11. France will face a shock playing class opposition plus hummels is back to steady the ship.

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

Jay, you’re right – never write off the Germans and I’m not. I’ve said at the outset it’s tough to call but I have to make that call. You don’t but if like Germany then back them.

German coach has confirmed 7 players are down with Flu like symptoms, throat ache etc

    Get on France @ 2/1

  4. Jay 10 years ago

Deano my boy he’s quoted as saying showing signs of flu

If u where in battle would you send a pigeon over to make them aware your men were sick. Come on over lol

This is a ploy by the Germans. Funny he doesn’t mention what ones are showing signs

    My 4 folds.

    Germany to qualify 8/11
    Brazil to qualify 1/2
    Belgium to qualify 13/8
Holland to win in 90 mins 1/2

  8. cooldude 10 years ago

Mr f, surely people have to play the waiting game if they fancy Germany? Throat ache fever apparently struck the squad so hold bets on Germany if thats your thought.

    • Mr Fixit 10 years ago

cooldude, only Germany know how serious it is – I’d imagine it’s just a scare and the players will be fine.

    • cooldude 10 years ago

True, I guess the starting lineups tomorrow will reveal all.

Germany look poor at the back unless Lahm plays at full back and I think they will have to go for it ,so I’m with you Mr F BTTS @ 1/1

  10. Rick 10 years ago

I’m pretty sure lahm will be at the back

  11. InterYerNan 10 years ago

With you on France to qualify Mr F. I have enjoyed watching this French team, good attacking flair and I think they will have enough to get past Germany tomorrow.

  12. Rick 10 years ago

What has made you pick belgium jay

I’ll be doing my favourite bet on the game – 2-1 to Germany combined with Muller FGS and another bet replaced with LGS.
It’s a bet I do a lot and do well with plus it keeps your interest in even if a goal or two go in that don’t suit you.
I’m hoping after the last two games going to extra time that this one will have goals in the 90 mins.

  14. Jay 10 years ago

Jay Belgium were superb against an American side Syked up with Howard having the game of his life and should have been 3 4 nil on another night

Argentina were poor vs Swiss and if Swiss had quality up front they would have scored the easy chances they had.

Argentina will play and leave there dodgy defence open vs a Belgium side with quality up front and at the back.

    Belgium are my super single

  15. Bomber Harris 10 years ago

France Colombia double looks tasty , Brazil have not convinced me enough to back them at such a skinny price

  16. Rick 10 years ago

Belgium havent exactly looked lethal.lukaku scored a goal against a spent u.s side, hazard hasnt scored , cant rely on origi and fellaini is a clown.

  17. Chris Guy 10 years ago

    Brazil VS Columbia

David Luiz First Goalscorer @ 33/1
David Luiz Anytime Goalscorer @ 12/1

    Germany VS France

Mat Hummells First Goalscorer @ 40/1
Mat Hummels Anytime Goalscorer @ 16/1

I’ve also backed the following going by the recent games:

Germany, Argentina, Brazil and Holland all to win in extra time. Bets consisting of 6 doubles, 4 trebles and an accumulator. Each double returns around 100/1.

Also I’ve backed no Goalscorer in all four games. Bets consisting of 6 doubles, 4 trebles and an accumulator. Each double returns around 80/1.

For the above bets all I’m hoping for is a double. Anything more than this would be magical. Good luck everyone!!

  18. Chris Guy 10 years ago

Apparently Hummells is back from the cold/flu and Lahm will play in midfield again according to reports.

    Germany 10/11
    Colombia 15/8
    Belgium 6/4
    Costa Rica 11/4

    All to qualify with ladbrokes
    £10 pays £514.56
Covering my ante post bets with this and the tightest defences usually come out on top at this stage of any tournament. I know France are equally tight but i have them in various ante post bets. Still cant believe Colombia are 12/1. If the pundits and punters have the same fear as Colombia will have tonight then we should all be cashing in.

As I said last night never write off the Germans.

    One down 3 to go

As I said last night. Germany to qualify, Brazil to qualify. Belgium to qualify and holland in 90 mins

  30. Cally g aka jay 10 years ago

France like I said last night were lucky the linesman in the Nigeria game had a squint. They have played one team in this World Cup and lost. People at work laughed slightly when I said the Germans. They also laughed louder when I said Belgium the mora. — watch this space
