FIRST up on Tuesday it's Belgium v Algeria and it will be interesting to see if the winners of Scotland's qualifying group live up to the hype.
Some people (not me) have talked them up as potential winners but in a European sense I don't put them in the same bracket as Germany, Holland or even France.
However, they are a decent side and with attacking football lighting Brazil 2014 hopefully Belgium provide more thrills and spills.
They are no bigger than 8-15 at Coral to beat Algeria but should do so with something to spare against an African outfit who arrive with low expectations.
Algeria didn't score a goal in South Africa four years ago and struggled through qualifying on away goals in a play-off against Burkina Faso.
They have a couple of decent players, such as Valencia's Sofiane Feghouli and Inter's Saphir Taider, but lack quality at the back where the likes of ex-Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra could play a part.
Belgium are star-studded and I expect them to top Group H. Back them to put down a marker with a win by at least two goals and minus one they are 11-8 at Skybet.
First-scorer favourite is Everton's Romelu Lukaku who is worth a look at 4-1 with Coral. Another player with a chance is Eden Hazard who is 6-1 at Paddy Power. Lukaku has scored six goals in his last eight internationals. Hazard is 5-2 with Betfred to be named official man of the match by a Twitter vote and is likely to win it if he shows some flicks and tricks.
For those backing both to score easyodds warn the Belgians success in qualifying was built on a solid defensive unit with Marc Wilmot's team only conceded four goals en route to the tournament, a record bettered only by Spain.
Algeria have failed to score in their last five World Cup games and according to easyodds the favourites to win to nil pays 6-4 at Betfred.
Easyodds point out Belgium were the biggest movers in the outright World Cup betting market leading up to the start of the tournament.
Immediately after the 2010 tournament the Belgians were priced at 250-1 and are now best odds of 25-1 with bet365 and eighth favourites.
The late tie could decided second place and is likely to be more cagey than most of the matches we've enjoyed. The Koreans haven't built on their 2002 semi-final appearance while Russia have generally disappointed in finals.
Under Fabio Capello they will be strong in defence and tough to beat and best bet could be a 1-0 Russia win at 13-2 with Ladbrokes. For first scorer I'll be looking at Dinamo Moscow's Aleksandr Kokorin at 6-1 (various) – and he looks as if he has a great future.

MrWixi, even though in their last six matches (3 friendlies, 3 qualifiers) Algeria have found the net in every game (11 goals scored in total) I am reluctant to back btts against a good Belgium defence. At the same time, voting ‘no’ could go down at any time of course with an Algerian penalty, Belgian own goal etc. It’s been a tournament rich with btts-yes results and I think that’s why prior to yesterday’s kick-offs the bookies had had enough. Example : a btts-yes treble on yesterday’s games paid 7/1 on the Ladbrokes shop coupon (of course coupon odds do fluctuate, we know). At about 1pm when I went in, the in-shop price of that same treble had dropped to below fours. I don’t believe punters alone had generated such a fall in odds, more like Bookies panicking thinking every team yet to play will score, and we all know what happened yesterday with only half the teams finding paydirt. So I’m gonna steer clear of the Belgian game altogether and vote yes on the other two, currently paying just under 3’s.

Spain got taken apart by a ruthless Dutch side and their world class players. Cormac, probably because you have won 6 in a row. Bookies will simply withdraw a market if it’s so one-sided. Just read the Racing Post an interesting comments from bet365‘s Steve Freeth about how disastrous the World Cup has been for them and the measures they are taking to stem the tide. Bet365 say Sunday when three well-backed favourites – Switzerland, France and Argentina all won was their worse trading day in history. He also said he didn’t expect punters to feel sorry for them. Do we – of course we don’t.

Alex, good going mate. I have never doubted the USA’s ability and anyone coached by Klinsmann deserves respect but I just thought Ghana would prove a very decent side. I posted after the African Nations that I believed within 12-16 years Ghana would be the first African side to win the World Cup and I still believe it possible. Second stage matches are well worth looking at from the ‘lose and you go home’ point of view. Any side losing their first match are almost certainly going to need a goal at this stage and it is well worth looking at outsiders chances of scoring although the BTTS odds will no doubt reflect this.
Algeria danger men are Ghoulam/Feghouli/Slimani. Taider – had an imbalanced season at Inter but will need to protect their left side as Algeria will no doubt use Ghoulam to sprint down the left side and cutting in for Feg Slim..Ghoulam is pacey and good at providing accurate balls(and he has a stinging long range shot)
I really cant say whether Algeria can score, but on the counter they have a medium chance.
Belgium are as good as Netherlands and France, the hype is made from the fact most play in the EPL –
The Belgium problem is finding the performances from their club level to transmit to international level- tricky but they do look a united side – a good start.
Belgium are going to be tricky with Hazard and Mertens trying to stretch this defence, I think it will be too much for Algeria especially the central defenders..
Algeria have players at Inter/Valencia/Getafe/Sporting Lisbon/Spurs/Napoli/Reims/ so its not a complete walkover, but Algeria lack overall quality to trouble the red devils.
Belgium to win and score a couple at least for me and Algeria could score but will avoid ‘to nil’ and ‘btts’ for lack of confidence.

Russia is an interesting one. Capello has a good record with most of his teams, even with the England team. When Arrigo Sacchi left AC after winning back to back European cups – that AC side that was a superforward juggernaut of goalsgoalsgoals to Capello – the first thing he did was to bring everything back into line /defensive/ controlled. Same with Roma – built from defence.
Not watched Russia but I am expecting another team built from defence to win. I’m not sure about the Nigeria game to be honest but if I had placed a bet on the match it would have def been an unders bet. Many websites including the bet rescue had tipped a bore 0-0 result. On paper Nigeria should have one but were very disappointing.

I think most people will be having some sort of bet on Brazil today as they look the most likely of the 6 teams in action today to take all 3 points- Belgium and Russia should too but for me not as much confidence. The straight win is too small and the -1 handicap is just under evens so I’ve decided to go with whether I think Mexico can score or not. For Brazil the win to nil or with with BTTS are both over evens. Judging from the first set of games I think Mexico can score tonight. They created some good chances against Cameroon and I think they can get a couple of chances against Brazil. Brazil looked less than convincing at the back against Croatia. At 2:1 to Brazil the Croatians could have and maybe should have gotten level were it not for some questionable refereeing- something the Mexicans know about too. I think Mexico can score and Brazil will win so taking Brazil with BTTS today.

So my main tips are BTTS and also on side of Algeria or Draw double chance.
This group H is the most open of and the Bookies, fans and media have over hyped Belgium imho with the cliche of dark horses .
USA , Algeria and Costa Rica have not be credited by anyone and yet 2 of the 3 have won as i predicted.
So my third prediction is on Algeria or draw
They are firstly more suited to the conditions than the european counterparts though of course alot of players play over europe in fact all 23 are based in different leagues.
I think they will adapt to climate far better.
The algerias adopt a flexible 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 and thats the key to this match.
Valencia’s Sofiane Feghouli is the penalty taker and plays on the wide of the front 3 . The majority of play will pass through Feghouli as a creative outlet. He gets ball in to….Slimani and Soudani

Now i like the idea of Algeria exploiting Belgium weakest area – Belguim full backs. Vertghen is a constant liability out there and alderwiereld is past his best and ageing . I can see fouling and both being defensively fragile. Wing play is emphasized to make most of strengths

My final point has to be the coaches. Wilmots stifles Belgium and has not the tactical nous to go far. Granted there are some talents but they as good as an england generation and arent anything like a france or spain .

Golden, I see the Belgium weakness in the same space for Algeria to attack – down the wings. Ghoulam is the better of the two and Taider(who has not really broken into that inter side at all this season) I think will be the one drifting into his spot if he is on his express train. They can exploit the Belgium left. The problem is, that will also commit a weakness for themselves..and Mertens will be running at this side, and Mertens knows Ghoulam well as they are team mates at Napoli ,so Belgium could equally exploit this. (though I think Belgium will take the Algerian centre right as Ghoulam is the best of that back four.

Johnboy, why did you go for the overs mate? The fact that it’s the Philippines doesn’t mean it’s going to be always an over! :D These two teams are the two best defences, who concede only 1 goal per game on average, I personally went for under 3.5, as it seemed good value, given the record of both teams and the previous 2 meetings this season, which both went under.
I’ve been having some luck since the World Cup started with the overs markets and today I think there’s value in the Belgium Game with Over 3.5 goals.

They have also scored in the last 13 matches they have played and although the opposition will not be ‘Belgium’ class it shows they are a side geared up to attack. Belgium will look to outscore them obviously and again scoring 2 or 3 will be enough even if they concede.

However maybe I have missed some of their team composition and results but I don’t think any of them came into the competition as current world champions, nor boast of the current world best player, nor lose by a margin of 4 goals.

So yes I agree with you, maybe there should be another competition started where these “African rubbish teams” are excluded and call it the European Championships but I think we will find someone has already beaten us to it.

To be honest a second Algeria goal would help as then Wilmots would throw caution to the wind but I see Algeria just trying to stop Belgium scoring now by packing out the last third of the pitch. Slightly gutted – took 10-0 half time @ 13.0 for Odense game – dunno why they bothered playing any injury time given the score and it’s a friendly but of course no cash out and they scored in the 46th minute.
Still won more than enough up until that point – from about 20 mins in the goal line was far too low though they seem to have reacted now

harpreet, Brazil stole the game against Croatia in my opinion and tonight face a potentially better side than the Croatians. Mexico are not a bad side and can attack you from the back which at times Brazil may find it difficult to defend against. Brazil have all the superstars and should win but I couldn’t back them and be confident.
Maybe should have pointed out that the Four-Fold (Mr Fixit tip) was Brazil, France, Argentina and Belgium.

Really like the ivory coast btts raal. Colombia looked impressive going forward although hard to gauge against Greece but they were creative and they will score a few I think.

Not a great deal jumps out value wise. Neymar to score will be popular, but I have took him top tournament scorer so I am in no rush to bet him anytime at odds on. He is the headline offer at William Hill 11/8.

Quick question guys, I had £20 on Belgium to score over 2.5 goals with bet365, I tried to cash out for £13 odd with 8mins left in game but was as it was processing I was told the offer was no longer available, however, my bet disappeared even from ‘bets that cannot be cashed out’ section, needless to say I never got the cash out & bet lost, is it worth chasing them up on this one?
Tam, they will just tell you the cash out is made available if and when it suits them. They offer it but are not obliged to have it up all the time mate.

I tell you what Brazil are massively overrated. They were poor against Croatia as well.
Germany will win this. Mark my words. I backed them before the tournament. I had massive concerns with Gundogan ad Reus getting injured and other niggly injuries and with Brazil being the hosts and Argentina looking strong I thought they would be up against it. I know there’s a long way to go but if you watched the standard of play from the Germans compared to Brazil tonight and anyone else on their opening games. There is a huge difference.
If Brazil would have played Germany tonight they would have got annihilated.
Italy have also got to be respected. Holland’s result was a flash in the pan. Spain may prove to be dangerous, and an outside punt – don’t write off England. They pushed a good Italy side on Saturday.
