A poor day all round after three of the selections saw the dreaded market support, poor selections in hindsight, landing far too often on the horses the bookies want me to. We've not done overly well recently but our worst month saw us pay for just 7 of our 31 bets which is no disaster so we'll carry on making improvements as we go.

Attacanter's Tips

Happy Hadeda 11/4 four places – 17.00 Kempton

Hector Crouch isn't a man I'd invite to my enemy's wedding, but I am going to risk him at a very short price all the same. My most recent cause for detest is based on a ride he gave a horse for today's trainer, it was a Cesarewitch trial in which he purposely prevented the horse from winning, I was on that day so quite annoyed – which I doubled down on given I chanced the same runner in the main race itself, who avoided a penalty and got a 5lb apprentice to help – of course, he stunk out the place.

Anyway, this price is absurd with four places but at least the odds suggest not many are in it, of course, something can pop up but it is hard to see our last time out course and distance winner out of the places. A 3lb rise isn't of much concern for this very lightly raced 3-year-old, his profile besides a Newmarket blip on heavy is overall quite nice, last time was his first run in 10 months, he may well bounce but I don't see why they'd bring him off the boil so without running on too much more, he is on with the added chance he can actually win outright.

Rock N Roll Pinky 5/1 four places – 15.50 Nottingham

This does seem like one of those bookie horses I was talking about but he is included all the same up against a Sir Michael Stoute runner, a legend of the game who is retiring imminently, this runner may well be one of his last – he is sure to go out with a winner but we'll take it on and hope ours can at least put in another honest effort having finished 2nd here recently.

Given his place last time, we are potentially catching this horse a tad late but that is C&D form on today's going which does entitle him to feature. He bounced after his last good run, a 2nd at Doncaster before winning over C&D back in June but he's dropped into Class 6 from 5 now which with an extra place isn't all that bad. He remains on the same mark as last time when beaten cosily enough by 2 lengths but is just 1lb above his last win.

Spioradalta 8/1 four places – 15.18 Nottingham

I was going to chance Gainsbourg in this, he may even outrun my selection but he is a bit speculative in what seems quite a hot contest for a midweek Class 5. I am a big believer in certain combinations being more favourable in terms of the horse's chances of winning, it's proved itself over and over but with that said I am willing to risk the horse with Alex Jary on, his 0-3 record is very offputting, as is the fact this is a certified spare ride given he is here for a short Nigel Tinkler runner.

The horse has been running over further recently with a couple of decent claimers on his back, now back over the mile, there is hope we can see a better performance given his three wins has been between 7-8 furlongs, including one over C&D back in May 2023 when rated 11lbs higher. A lot of water has passed since but that victory was quite nice and it came on heavy going, the form almost reads too well, it'll likely count for little in this but we know the score and we'll take our chances despite a fair bit to take on trust.

John L Sullivan 8/1 four places – 14.35 Musselburgh

There have been plenty of next time out winners in regards to horses I've selected, most of which have been missed, John L Sullivan is one I've double-dipped on already without much of a return but he gets one more chance with a change of scenery hopefully capable of squeezing a little more out of him now dropped back into a Class 6.

WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?

A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:

– 1 fourfold accumulator

– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections

– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination

– 4 singles

The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
