Cairnzy managed to land a winner in the form of Gore Point at Stratford.
His selection went off at 9/4, which was decent value considering he won by twenty lengths. He might have got a bit lucky as the favourite unseated, but Gore Point was keeping close tabs on him at the time Ben Jones departed.
Camelot Champion was extremely green, pushed along basically from the start, and never got involved
Another Abbot 9/4 (1.5pt) – Salisbury 3.37
It's a shame that Addison Grey is coming against Another Abbot, as I really like both of these horses. I decided to go with Another Abbot, on the basis that I tipped him up last time out and he won.
After he won, I said that Another Abbot and the runner-up would be ahead of the handicapper by some distance. The pair of them pulled miles clear of the third, and it looks like I could have been correct. The runner-up ran earlier this month and hosed up by over four lengths, recording an RPR of 87 when being rated just 73.
Another Abbot conceded 13lbs to the runner-up that day, who was evidently miles ahead of the handicapper, so I think that was a smooth performance. He'll need to have a fair few pounds up his sleeve to win this, as this is a big step up in grade, from a Class 4 to Class 2. These horses are not mugs, and he'll find out quickly if he's capable at this grade.
The current price is probably about right, but I could definitely see him going off even shorter.
Abduction 11/2 (1pt) – Musselburgh 4.00
I feel like it's always a risk giving a chance to Abduction. He can be inconsistent throughout the season, but will always pop up when his handicap mark is low enough, once or twice a season.
He has already won over today's course and distance earlier this year, but after a string of fairly poor results, his handicap mark has come down to 74. He won off 74 last time he won, and off this mark last time out, he bounced back to form over a trip which could be too short for him these days.
I don't know much about the young lad in the saddle, but he has a solid strike rate for an apprentice, and with him taking off 7lbs, he puts my selection on a ridiculously low handicap mark.
With Iris Dancer in the lineup, you'd like to think that there will be a solid pace to aim at, which is what Abduction needs.
