Thanks to Cairzy for covering for me during my absence while I was exploring Prague in the Czech Republic.
I didn't manage to keep up to date with the results during the week, so I cannot comment on how things went. Hopefully, you've all have a great week in terms of betting and outside of the horse racing world.
Only Spoofing 6/1 (5pl 1pt EW) – Musselburgh 4.45
Despite now being an eleven-year-old, Only Spoofing caught my eye in what appears to be the most competitive flat race of the day at Musselburgh.
This is a sixteen-runner field over 5f on a sharp track, so it spells carnage, but when you have a horse like Only Spoofing, who has a 3/4 record at this track, it's hard to sway away from.
Only Spoofing hasn't won since the back end of the 2023 flat season, but he did run well in parts during last season, so it's not like he is entirely shot, and his two runs this year have been good enough to suggest the ability remains and he can win races at this level. The trainer is 3/4 at the track, all of those wins have come via Only Spoofing, and his only defeat was when Only Spoofing finished third, so they do not like to waste their bullets when coming to Musselburgh, and whenever they make the trip across from Ireland, it generally means they are confident of a very big run, as their record would suggest.
He is getting on in age now, but his handicap mark makes him very well handicapped as he last won off an 11lbs higher mark. The ground is fine, the main concern is the draw and the field size due to the way this track is. If you miss the break, you will be punished, and a lot of scrimaging can happen, so hopefully, he can get a prominent position.
