Racing tips: Frere D’Armes can secure a 3rd chase win now tackling quicker ground

As I mentioned in the write-up yesterday, 4yo's do struggle when going against their elders and Kartoon and Co proved that as he put in a horrendous run. Money was returned when Rath Gaul Hill managed to win later on at Newbury when well supported into second fav.

Ascot 3:20 – Frere D'Armes 9/4 (1pt, Bet365)

I will be hoping that Dan Skelton's Frere D'Armes will be running better than yesterday's selection that I stuck up, as if he does anything like his stablemate this will be chalked very quickly.

I am obviously only messing around about the form of the Skelton yard as they did have a winner yesterday and I do think Frere D'Armes has a very nice opportunity in today's race at a track he does tend to run very well at. He is above his last winning mark by 3lbs, but I don't think that will be a problem for him as he has run well in the past off a mark of 133 which did come at today's course and distance. When he was 2nd to Boothill off 133 he did have Tristan Durrell on board who took off 5lbs so he was effectively on his last winning mark, but I refuse to believe that having Harry on board doesn't offset the claim he had on for that run and if Harry isn't worth the 3lb difference then I would be gobsmacked.

This horse goes best on good ground so it's nice to see that Ascot has the description as good and based on his runs on good and then comparing to any softer surface, you can see that he desperately needs a sound surface. His form has tailed off since his 2nd to Boothill, but I wouldn't read too much into that as he has raced on soft or good to soft on every occasion and was running in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham most recently, with this race most definitely being a drop in class. The main threats of this race would be the top weight and Martator but I refuse to believe that the Venetia horse has much to spare off his current mark and the Nigel Twiston-Davies horse was beaten by a Skelton horse last time out, so connections will know what to expect when going against him today.
