We were left with just one selection on Sunday due to my sole selection of the day being a non-runner. Just Over Land ran with credit for Rizz, but he could only manage second place in the end.

Magic Seven 8/1 – Hereford 3.00

For whatever reason, Magic Seven hasn't managed to do much since he won twice at this track last November. He was a decent bumper horse before making a winning start of hurdles, so there is clearly a bit of ability with this horse and now that he is back at his favourite track, running off a falling mark, he caught my eye in a competitive race.

Given Jonjo & AJ O'Neill's horse ran to RPRs of 115 and 120 from his maiden and novice hurdle races, with experience and time under his belt, it would be a shock if he wasn't able to improve on them and now the handicapper has given him a chance off a mark of 114, you'd like to think he will bounce back to form at some stage.

He arrives with a somewhat recent run under his belt, with a 7th/11 finish at Worcester at the back end of August, so hit fitness should be coming to its peak and it's not a surprise that connections have opted to run at Hereford for his second run back this season, and it shows a good level of intent that they fancy their chances in winning this as he is 3/4 at the track.

Normally the market will tell you how an O'Neill horse runs, as they are a bit of a gambling yard, so if you're debating following me in with this one, it's probably best to wait before the off. Obviously, there's always a risk that you'll miss the prices, but the smart play would be to do what I've just mentioned.

I'm going with the win on the nose instead of each way.

Selectivelistening 4/1 – Hereford 3.30

Tom Ellis is better known for his PTP work and horses based in the Hunter's Chases, but he has had a few more runners in the normal jumps races this season. He is a very good trainer who has thrived with his amateur jockey races, as his record over fences would suggest (12/54 24% last 5 years), so his chase debutante Selectivelistening appeals to me more than the others in this field.

It's of major notice that Tom has opted for 3m 1f for this horse's chase debut as he has been kept to 2m over hurdles for the most part, but this lad's best performance came when he ran over the extended 2m 5f at Fontwell which saw him finish second of twelve, and would've traded short odds up the run in as he was in the lead but I'd say he threw it away.

With his best run coming over 2m 6f, it looks worth a crack over today's trip and combining it with fences could be the key to his success. He has experience over fences from his PTP runs. He didn't manage to win between the flags and on the bare look of it, it doesn't look great. However, he is definitely a quirky horse, so the experience over hurdles will have done him the world of good and now they are going over fences, they must feel he is ready.

Ideally, I'd like Jack Andrews to deliver him as late as possible. He has a high head carriage, and as I've just said he is quirky and I think that's why he didn't win at Fontwell because as soon as he hit the front he idled and you could tell his brain was in overload.

I am monitoring another horse. Currently, the price is too short for me to back. If the price drifts to something I'm happy with, it'll be put up and I'll let you know in the comments.

    Rizzell.

Why not name the horse then we can decide if it’s too short or not
People have different ideas as to what is too short.
I would back anything EVENS or better if it looks NAP potential.

Some would want a bigger price as a starting point.

Even if it’s odds on maybe folk could use it in a double to make it worthwhile.
